Kalvin Phillips

Find a lot of young social media fans judge players on stats, I always go of the eye test.

Cancelo for all his faults and it’s not lost that he left and we went on to win the treble, so right call to get rid!

He was a wonderful footballer and for one season in particular really made a difference for us.

Nunes in no way could do that!

I thought he was a shit defender. It seemed like every time we conceded a goal it was down the left side and usually in conjuction with either cancello or zinchenko sitting on his arse.

If you go back on this forum years ago we had people moaning about Mahrez, Gundo, Otamendi, Raz, Zin, Gabby...the list just goes on and on.

All of those were better than Lewis, Phillips, Nunes, Doku and Savinho.

Mahrez was amazing, as was Sterling for most of his time here.

I think Doku and Savinho have huge potential. I think Nunes is unfairly maligned and has done a decent job for us - I think he is equal to Zin, for example, and probably will become better than him. Lewis is 20 and a superb prospect, IMO. Mahrez - great player. Raz - brilliant and amazing stats. Both were slagged here.

Lots and lots of revisionism on this forum about Joao because he left on sour terms. On his day he was world class

Cancelo was a miserable twat, but he was our miserable twat, and a bloody good full back.
That’s too harsh for someone who raised his voice against small spaces pockets player overthinking fart who replaced him in first 11. Cancelo was right. He is still playing great football as right back. We don’t have one.

Navas ? as in Jesus Navas ? he had a good spell

you might put Scott Sinclair or Nolito there
Nolito and Scott Sinclair expectations were shite from day one.

I had a good feeling about Navas. Thought he would be class for us.

That's all.

Zinchenko was worse than all of them, rose tinted specs by all cos he was a nicer feller but he’s a lower league standard footballer and we robbed arsenal of £30m

To be fair I bet we could put a starting 11 together of underwhelming purchases.

Bravo

 Angelino
Mangala
Savic
Nunes

 Rodwell

Navas
Phillips
Jovetic

Bony
Samaras/RSC

Nowt wrong with Jesus Navas. He was a very good player, a World Cup winner. Over 120 games for City, only cost £14m.

We'd pay £50m+ for a player anywhere near his quality and adaptability these days.

Came here to post exactly this.

Navas was a much, much, much better player than some idiots ever gave him credit for.

Just been reading this thread. Where's all the negativity around Oscar Bobb come from? We were all gutted that he was injured at the start of last season after a promising summer. Now he's back and he's suddenly only mid - table standard. Surely we need to give the fella some time? He's got great balance.

What is this absolute nonsense?

Cancelo wasn’t good enough to replace Walker at RB.

He had a good year at LB where he mostly played as a 10 and forced Foden out wide, which left us as a team worse off because Foden is a far better creative player.

Everything about the team improved when he was dropped. The defence got better, we conceded fewer goals, and the attacking players who were having to operate like overlapping fullbacks to accommodate Cancelo’s dream of being a #10 suddenly started getting goals and assists again and we scored more goals overall.

Then he threw a hissy fit at being dropped, refused to celebrate a 17 year old academy player scoring his first ever goal for the club, demanded a transfer during the game and got rightfully kicked to the curb.

Then he bombed at Bayern.

Then he bombed at Barca and got replaced by another 17 year old kid.

Then he got no offers from any top club in Europe so he ran away to Saudi Arabia.

You might not like Rico Lewis (for some fucking reason) but calling him a “small spaces pockets player overthinking fart” is pathetic, and the rest of your comment is absolute fantasy.

If Joao Cancelo was a world class fullback he’d not be playing for Al-Ahli.
