I’m confused, is this the Kalvin Phillips thread?
Pep said he's in London, his wife's having a baby.Wonder will he make an appearance on the bench tomo?
I know that's what it is but, FFS he's picking up more money in a week than than I see in years and the one time he might actually get a game he's unavailable.Pep said he's in London, his wife's having a baby.
Bit of a commute to training if his family is in London.Pep said he's in London, his wife's having a baby.
One of the most stupid transfers we have made in the modern era.I know that's what it is but, FFS he's picking up more money in a week than than I see in years and the one time he might actually get a game he's unavailable.
It's our lucky day! Had his wife not been expecting then there was a red card waiting to come out. Thank you, Mrs Phillips. This lad has been an utter disaster. Awful form and beset by injuries. Even on his loan spells he's been awful and ends up injured. Now by some strange quirk of fate he's back in our squad. We have Huddersfield away, the perfect opportunity surely for him to gain some minutes.....and his wife is giving birth! He's cursed.
To be honest I'm not sure he'd even be picked.I know that's what it is but, FFS he's picking up more money in a week than than I see in years and the one time he might actually get a game he's unavailable.
He probably still turns up to training at West Ham and no one's realised yet.Bit of a commute to training if his family is in London.
With hindsight definitely, however not at the time. He was Englands POTY and not many were against his signing. Horrendous acquisition as it turns out now.One of the most stupid transfers we have made in the modern era.
Was he really England's POTY?With hindsight definitely, however not at the time. He was Englands POTY and not many were against his signing. Horrendous acquisition as it turns out now.
Yes he was, hard to believe I knowWas he really England's POTY?
From memory, I thought there were a few dissenters tbh, but not that it matters really, as you say, a horrendous signing.
Edit FWIW this was my take on it

Kalvin Phillips | Joins City on a 6-year deal
like nearly every opposition supporter who arrives on the transfer forum when city are linked with their players. Really don't know what they think they'll gain. Piss funny when they literally act like they know the individual and what they're gonna doforums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk
Lucky to nick the CL? BehaveWhile that's true.. he also did cost us the CL final in 2021 by not covering his man.
Pep did learn from this and went with 4 solid CB's in 2023 and even then we were lucky to nick the CL.
The old adage is true.. offense wins games but defense wins titles!
Agreed. A yard dog, half decent when playing for a team with low possession signed at a time when we were always in possession. One of the most stupid transfers we have made in the modern era.
Why is his wife in London? He plays for City and he's from Leeds. Call me old-fashioned, but I live with my wife.Pep said he's in London, his wife's having a baby.

We smashed Bayern and Real Madrid to get to the final. We played poorly in the final by the standards we'd set that season. Phil should have put the game to bed. Ederson had to make a couple of saves and Ruben had to head one round the post. There was nothing lucky about it and we didn't nick it. I agree my nerves were shot, but there was only going to be one winner that night. It's been 2 years and I still can't explain how Ruben didn't head the ball into his own net with zero reaction time or how Eddie saved it the first time with his knee..
20 years from now I'll still not be able to explain that.
We did a lot of things right that season but we needed luck there to nick it!
In the same way that we needed bad luck to lose it some other seasons. In a sense, that's why I'll never consider the Champions League the ultimate prize, because in any knockout tournament, luck plays a huge role. The fact that it's regularly won by teams that can't win their domestic league should tell us that. You can't fluke the league. It's been 2 years and I still can't explain how Ruben didn't head the ball into his own net with zero reaction time or how Eddie saved it the first time with his knee..
