It simply wouldn’t have had enough support or momentum to establish a footholding on power, so it would have sorted itself out.

I'm not sure 'sort itself out' is a phrase I'd use; it would never be the same again.

Those famous 'checks & balances' that are supposed to be in place to 'protect constitutional norms' would be obliterated, and if citizens actually rose up and tried to invoke their 2A rights to take down an illegitimate government (the actual reason that law exists) we'd soon see just how flimsy the Constitution is.
