Too long.

Fair enough.

How about 'Actually watch Rekik play fooball' ?

But accurate.

I was going to try and make an acronym out of it but it's too early...

I love this thread, Neville is a great poster. I have to agree with him on Rekik as well.

That's utter bollocks whoever is responsible.

Quick & commanding in the air my hairy arse.

I'd be interested to see what PSV fans made of that assessment because it has no basis in reality.

I#ve had a look around a few fans forums for PSV and the comments are generally all in the same direction:

  • They're pissed that they brought in a kid on loan instead of an experienced defender
  • He'll be good but lacks concentration and is particularly poor in one on ones
  • They would prefer him to be Plan B on the bench as they don't think he's ready for a full time Erediviste run.
  • Apparently some people think he cost them the title last year or something?

That doesn't surprise me. What does surprise me is how many wins they get with him in the team, some games he literally has absolutely nothing to do. It shows the standard of the oppo.

Rekik looks ok against shite & generally terrible vs any kind of quality.

When I read a comment that says he has pace, or is dominant in the air, I automatically know the person is talking through his arse & has probably never even seen him play, just a bullshit artist. He got bitched in both areas on occasion by some Norwegin kid a few weeks ago, who hasn't scored since April & would make Fat Bob Taylor look like Henry. Still no goal conceded.

He is still a kid though. So I'm not writing him off yet. For me, he could come to City for pre season & we take another look at him.

But he has to learn to find a way how to cope with no pace, & limited aerial ability, if we are going to use him.

Personal opinion. I think we will cash in on him in the summer. He doesn't look ready to be part of our squad and team and he needs to be playing regular first team football.

He's linked with Juventus again in Italy, looks like they're serious for him. With a year left on his contract next summer, expect the usual low ball offer from the cheap bastards.

Attempting to watch PSV at Breda. Ref ridiculously sent off the PSV fullback early on & they have played with 10 men for most of the half, & STILL Rekik has had almost nothing to do. Not his fault but fucking hell this league is absolute fucking SHITE.
Breda are like Pearce's City would be if they were all still playing together today & had been on the piss for 2 days.
SHITE.
Sorry Karim I tried

I was at their game on Saturday. The opponents Willem II were a lively outfit on the break. Rekik looked solid. Some good challenges. Pretty impressive. Ought definitely replace Boyata and a bit more next season.

Going to Eindhoven this weekend just for a random one - might pop and watch PSV. Playing Utrecht.

Denayer absolutely miles ahead of him from what I've seen.
Agreed
He's come on leaps and bounds whereas Rekik seems to have stagnated

Tbh, & to be fair to him, I've been critical of Rekik in the past when I've seen stuff in his game which is lacking, but I don't even know for sure anymore if Rekik has stagnated, because when I watch him play, he has so little to do in a game, it is becoming impossible to judge.

I imagine nothing has changed, but for all I know, he might be a brick wall when under the cosh nowardays, like a Dutch John Terry. ( It's very unlikely) But he is never under any pressure, barely has to make a tackle, or win a difficult header & he just plays nothing passes, with loads of time. It's no exaggeration to say that Gareth Barry could have replaced Rekik in any of about the last 8 games I've seen him play, & nobody would notice any defensive problem, just better passing.

There was one moment yesterday, when a bloke sidestepped him & took a shot & Rekik looked miles off it, as in the past, to me. But it was one incident & it's not fair of me to judge him on that. But it was the only time anyone was facing him, in 45 mins, so what do I judge him on ?

Clearly though, Denayer is faster, quicker in the tackle & a MILES better footballer. And he has to win the ball lots, every game & win 1v1s.

Neither is great in the air.

Well PSV are now 12 points clear at the top of the Eredevise, with the best defence in the league, so that has to be good news for us and him. The experience of playing week in week out for a championship winning team at the age of only 20 can only do him good, along with raise his profile and his value. Hard to really do more than that with this loan.

It won't do much for his ability if he's never tested but yeah it will help us sell him on. Almost certain he'll move on in the summer now. If we can get £5m for him I'd be happy.

You couldn't realise how wrong you are. It would be much better for Rekik to be at a team that's under pressure all game, desperately trying to keep clean sheets and is down near the bottom. It would force him to learn key defensive attributes.

At least with Denayer he has to defend in every game as there is a level of evenness at times in the SPL - Celtic aren't quite as dominant.

In the Eredivisie Rekik may as well take a sofa onto the pitch and sit back and relax. Most opposing players would still fail to get past him.

It's goes to show just how difficult it is to judge top quality players from that league. Koeman has picked some decent quality from his time at Feyenoord and they've done well at Southampton... Afonso Alves had a great scoring record and so did Luis Suarez. Wilfried Bony had a great scoring record and so did Jozy Altidore.... on and Mr Guidetti.

A spell in Serie A would be good for Rekik but realistically I don't think he's likely to remain a City player.
