Kazimierz Deyna

What did he do for us? Not a lot.
Steve Daley did more and that's saying something.
Lord Effingham, your name says it all !

Longsight M13. Please be aware that Peter Swales, chairman, NOT Tony Book the manager, signed Deyna in 1978 before the arrival of Allison on 5th Jan. 1979

i was only thinking about him earlier because of it being malcolms funeral today and some of the players at the club in the late 70s...
...I did the same but it was Dragoslav Stepanovic and Barry Silkman that came to mind...
and then I remembered Stuart lee and the Futchers!

You sir are obviously a complete and utter cock, but this forum is more about discussion and debate rather than petty dissagreements between minions, so though I'm sure you'll come back with another meaningless shower of dross, I can't be arsed TBH. I am however pretty sure that to describe such a fine and tallented player in the way you do will find little support on here from anyone other than one who may share your ignorance and foolish attitude.

One of the best midfielders we were fortunate enough to have the honour of watching, though in his twilight, is listed as the best player ever to come out of Poland, and a very gifted player.
we have had a few incredibly gifted players at a similar time in their careers like Tommy Hutchinson and Ali Bernarbia, and it's players like these that due to their spell at our Club being relatively short are unfortunately often quickly forgotten.

Glad you mentioned Tommy Hutch mate, never realised just how good he was, remember him taking the p1ss out of Kevin Ratcliffe, Ratcliffe couldn`t handle it and nutted Tommy ( I bet Tommy had something to say in the bar after though).

Deyna, as some have said we got him at the latter stages of his career but he was pure elegance, all the things you see the pres creaming themselves over with Beckham ? Well Deyna was doing stuff like that decades before.

What month in 1978? If, as you say it's after the WC then you're splitting hairs. No transfer windows in those days. And at best, he was there for a couple of months before Big Mal returned. But don't let facts get in the way of your rant. I cant believe you still have a boo-boy target 30 years after he played for us and 20-odd years since he died. Good for you

As I remember it was a long and protracted transfer - remember when we used to do them?? ;O) - and he eventually singed in October 1978. Under the Communist regime his club (the Army side Legia Warsaw) couldn't accept money for him as the government believed all sport was free, so the Poles accepted a full set of training equipment in lieu of a cash payment.

He was indeed at the end of his career when he joined us and lasted about 2 years, scoring a brilliant only goal of the game against Forest late in 1979. I remember one newspaper report describing his playing relationship with his City team-mates as: "while the rest of the team are on Radio Luxembourg, Deyna is tuned into Radio 4" (it was meant to be a compliment).

He appeared with Mike Summerbee, Bobby Moore and Pele in Escape To Victory and died whilst drink-driving in San Diego in 1989.

A fine player, probably past his best but still far too good for us at the time

-- Wed Oct 27, 2010 10:42 pm --

He wasn't.
Out of all the great players in the '78 world cup
Swales buys Deyna !!
Kempes, Luque, Boniek, we end up with Deyna because Swales was an idiot.

I'd go as far as to say the Swales chairmanship ruined City to this day, we are only just recovering from having such a madman running the club.

I remember it well, I think when we played Forest (probably a top two side at the time) Big Mal refered to it as our `O` levels for the young team, later on when we played Liverpool he refered to it as our `A` levels, always made me laugh that.

Anyone ever remember the free kick, last game of the season home to Villa curled over the wall into the top corner ( lost 2-3) ?
