Kazimierz Deyna

God, it's so funny now looking at the shorts we all used to wear in the 70's, it almost looks like they are playing in their boxers, lol.

we when played in them shorts in the 70s we used to laugh at knee length shorts from the 50s funny how things go round in circles todays shorts are a godsend for lads with legs like peter crouch. On deyna pretty sure polish government wouldn't let internationals under 30 play outside poland and he played for an army funded team, when we got him his brain was still there but his legs were fading badly so we never really saw how good a player he really was.
And someone mentioned barry silkman the man who thought he could do everything forgot about him, goalkicks corners, throw ins, free kicks, kick offs you couldn't get the ball off him especially if you were on the same team.Barry can we have our ball back please

He wasn't.
Out of all the great players in the '78 world cup
Swales buys Deyna !!
Kempes, Luque, Boniek, we end up with Deyna because Swales was an idiot.

I'd go as far as to say the Swales chairmanship ruined City to this day, we are only just recovering from having such a madman running the club.

Forgeting Deyna for a moment, why would Kempes or Boniek have joined City? It would have been the coup of the fucking century if either of them had signed up for us. Kempes was settled at Valencia and Boniek went on to be part of a great Juve side which included Platini and won the Euro Cup.

Kazi Deyna was a great player who came to us late in his career but his class was unmistakeable.

the goal i remember most about kazzy was the one he didn,t score, he dribbled into the area he was tackled the ball dropped nicely to tony henry and the ball nestled beautifully in the back of uniteds net, then mickey robinson curled one past bailey, kazzy was a luxury player brought to the club to boost our attendancies and not just from the polish prospective, his goal against cloughies forest was an absolute gem, side stepping two players and smasing it low past (must play robert green) shilton? the united game i mentioned i will never forget, it had kicked off at the back of the kippax near the end, i couldn,t find my shoe anywhere it was too packed, so i waited till most of the fans had left, i gave up after 15 minutes and started to limp home down the kippax street itself, got across the road and about 30 meters away was my shoe it had been kicked and knocked all the way out the ground and was stiill intacked, that was a great result and probably steve daileys best game for us totally dominating midfield and out playing wilkins?

Swales actually started out negotiating to get Boniek - but because of the Communist Regime and army involvement they would only allow players over a certain age (30?) to leave Poland hence we were offered and got Deyna.

As for the prat who dismisses him as useless - look at our results in the last 6 or 7 home games of 1979 season - his goals single handedly kept us in the then First Division.

So no he wasn't first choice but he more than played his part and his memory is worth far more than some deluded pillock spouting utter garbage about him.

Rant over!!

As my username suggests he was one of my favourite players, first caught my eye in the world cup a great player could pass it through the eye of a needle. When he came to us it was classed as a great coup as not many gifted foreign players were in our league.
He was defo not passed it and played some great football for us,anyone who trys to disrespect him doesnt know what they are talking about, the city faithfull loved him.

Bearing in mind the amount of foreign players now, could Swales be described as a visionary lol (no televisionary puns)

Ultimately I think we were all left a little dissapointed by Denya. As fans we had all seen what Ardilles was doing at Spurs and Thyssen and Arnold Muhren were doing at Ipswich. Sadly, Denya never reached those heights for us.

As many in the thread have already pointed out it was clear his best days were behind him. He still had his moments though.

Was one of the first to meet him over here outside Maine Road.
He got out of a taxi with a pal and signed my autograph book.
Was chuffed.

RIP
