keep one centre half...who?

Without injuries Vinny shits all over every other defender in the world, bar none. But, and it's a big but, (but not as big as my butt) I would go with the Mangler. Superb athlete, great attitude, dominates big centre forwards (anyone see the mighty Zlatan go within 20 yards of him over the 2 games?) and he will improve a lot over the next few years if the new manager shows confidence in him.

Or we could just buy Phil Jones to make all the other centre halves look better?

Kompany is either a first team player or nothing. He leaves too much of an organisational void when he's unavailable. If he's not going to be able to play 30+ PL games and all CL games then I think it would sadly be time to say farewell.

If Kompany cannot play 30+ Pl games and all CL games then we need to bring in someone who can organise the back 4. Neither Mangala or Otamendi can do that. It would be expecting too much of possible signings such as Stones or Laporte to do it in their first season. Ditto Denayer.

My preference would be to keep Otamendi rather than Mangala. But it would depend on what type of player we brought in to replace Kompany. If its a player of similar size and physique as Kompany then definitely keep Otamendi. If its a smaller, less physical player then keep Mangala.

Next question which midfielder is he going to convert to a center back. Did it at barca and bayern.

I would like to see how Otamendi plays at right back, same with Mangala on the left. Maybe would not offer much offensively, however could offer a solid robust defence.

Otti for sure always takes time to settle to the premiership

I think we showed we can defend if set up right but that's not happend much this season

We will keep 3. Fernandinho as a centre back in England? Stick him next to Otamendi, and why not get John Burridge back if we want to be the smallest team in the league and let Huth score a hattrick every game.

In merrie (sic) old England, we say centre half.

And it's a really tough call. Kompany is a crock, with no reason to suggest his injury record will improve as he ages further, Mangala is a quicker version of Lescott with the ball (ie. not comfortable with it) and not as good a defender without it - sample: letting Van Dijk stand goal side of him at corners last week - and Otamendi, whilst far more natural in possession, manages to drop a serious ricket every other game. I'd like to keep the faith with Kompany, but not without buying cover anyway. Maybe 5 centre halves next season then? Kompany, Stones, Laporte, Otamendi and Denayer? Trouble with that quintet is that Kompany is still the only natural organiser and leader......

Don't see how we can get rid of Vinnie unless he retires so your five CB collection seems the obvious solution, maybe with Vinnie doing some coaching. I am fairly indifferent on a choice between Manga and Ota. Manga is younger and left footed so might make for more balance.
