Has he been named in the squad for the upcoming friendlies?...I also read he needed to play in 75% of Nigeria's games over the last 2 years for this to count?....don't know if that true...

06/09/2014 Calabar Nigeria v Congo
10/09/2014 Cape Town South Africa v Nigeria
That's correct I think, someone also posted that the Nigerian manager stated he'd be in the U21's (?) and wouldn't automatically get in the 1st team.

thanks for your reply mate.....If that all true, that pretty much confirms he isn't going to get a work permit granted for this season.....

In all honesty, and I think I've said this before on here, but the work permit requirements in England are fucking dumb beyond belief. They honestly infuriate me.

Why are people discounting the special dispensation rule for exceptional talent?
Arsenal signed a young Mexican player by the name of Carlos Vela with a similar international U17 background in a team that won the 2005 FIFA U17 World Championships, a competition in which he was top scorer with 5 goals. Arsenal signed him up but he was refused a work permit here and he was loaned out for three years in Europe until he qualified for English residency.

I don't know - especially when he is currently the CAF young player of the year:
<a class="postlink" href="http://africansoccer.weebly.com/caf-young-player-of-the-year.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://africansoccer.weebly.com/caf-you ... -year.html</a>

just went back and watched his compilation from kansas city. the guy is ready for the first team, i really think so. he's already on the natural mental wavelength that city players must be on (see the difference between zaba and sagna, who has yet to be fully embedded in the City mentality—but Iheanacho already has it). an "exceptional talent" if there ever was one.

Surely if that is the case then we'd have no problem getting a work permit on appeal due to the fact that he is a player of exceptional talent and ability. IIRC that young Japanese kid who plays for Arsenal got one this way so I see no problem for iheanacho

I hope we have a legal case well and ready in case the jury is anti-City, which is definitely possible. If there is an exceptional talent rule, and he doesn't get it, then the whole fucking system should be torn the fuck down.

Actually I wasn't discounting it myself, I just forgot about it. Doh...

Remember the Rags got a work permit for Angelo Henriquez at 18 . Sorry it's a link to daily mail <a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2191660/Angelo-Henriquez-granted-work-permit-Manchester-United-transfer.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... nsfer.html</a>

When will we know if we can use him in the first team and what date in oct is his birthday?

Kelechi Iheanacho (born 3 October 1996)

Stuart Brennan just said on twitter that Iheanacho is NOT deemed by the Club as being "first team level at the moment"

Think we just kidding ourselves that a 17 year old with no prem experience could step into the squad this season and replace Negredo......

What, like when Raheem Sterling made his debut at 17 years and 4 months for Liverpool.

This Iheanacho looks the part already and the sooner we get him playing the better. In the words of Clough, 'if they're good enough they're old enough'

As an aside, in any sport you can care to mention it is generally the case that those that reach the highest levels of competition earlier tend to be able to progress to be the very best in their sports.

In short, get your boots on Kelechi.

It's clever that City understate his ability until he signs a contract. Similar to big Mal going to watch Colin Bell and openly criticising him in the crowd in order to put off other suitors. For those of us old enough to remember.

Probably be sold to a championship club for peanuts in 18 months

Yep, and then fall by the wayside like so many of our promising youngsters. I really wonder whether we have the right coaches to bring through talented players. Only time will tell I suppose. Micah had the raw power but no one was able to coach him to be a better defender or footballer. Chelsea on the other hand look like they consistently produce good players and then get them loaned out.

Even if he was good enough to play in the premier league, I don't think he could replace Negredo. Negredo is the beast, while he had pretty good technical ability, his biggest attribute was his strength and power. From what I've seen of Iheanacho he looks more like a Jovetic type player. He seemed to like to drop into the midfield to receive the ball and looked to do something with it at his feet. I can't see him consistently outmuscling premier league defenders for a header in the box, and being the target man Negredo was.
