Kevin De Bruyne - 2016/17 performances

You seem to think that we did everything. There was a team called Monaco on the field last night who also actually had an impact on the game.

They sat back at 2-0 and it coiincided with us dropping Kev deeper. Don't say we didn't, I'll let you find a dozen heat maps for him and Silva to show you are wrong.

1st half: Kev the second press(Kun is the first press in the system) and it was pants.
2nd half: Silva the second press, Kev dropped deep as a pivot. Press suddenly far better.

Two reasons. 1. Silva worked harder at it than Kev. 2. Monaco sat off a bit.

No one said it's lack of effort. He just looks absolutely mentally gone. Exhausted. Had Sterling had that game last night there'd be pitchforks out for him.

Kev is not good enough right now, and hasn't been for a long time now. It's getting to a concerning stage where we can't carry him in the next 6 games if he isn't contributing.
I think you'll find if you look back at the comment I originally quoted, his effort and attitude were definitley being questioned. I have agreed with you that he's not playing well at the moment and was awful last night.

However, do you honestly think that we didn't sit off Monaco in the first half? That the only reason we failed to impose ourselves and have any kind of meaningful possession in their half, any kind of decent attacks, any shots on goal, was because Kev didn't press well enough or work hard enough?

He's been dire for weeks.
Needs benching for next few games. Goes missing in a lot of CL games for me.

There were too factors. Kev's failure to press right lead to them being free to launch long balls. Those long balls were all knocked down as our full backs weren't worth a damn and that consistently pulled out Stones and Fernandinho of their positions. Stones did well in his reactions, but Sagna & Dinho let him down badly every single time. Watch the first half again with this in mind. If our front press was on point, the back isn't under all that pressure. KDB & Dinho were why we looked so poor mate for two entirely different, but linked reasons.

Kev looks knackered , last season he had an injury that kept him out for a couple of months and previously he enjoyed winter breaks in the Bundesliga , this is his 1st full season of non stop football and he will probably play nearer 60 games including internationals , surely with all the technology in sport fitness our coaches can predict when a player is struggling , he should never have started at Monaco especially with an in form and rejuvenated Yaya available , bad call from Pep and his coaching team

People wax lyrical about KDB and for most part he is a quality player. However, I cannot understand how someone of his elk gives the ball away as often as he does. It is the same with David Silva, both these artists are extremely gifted players yet their distribution often gets ignored. Let's hope that both or either have something in the tank for this afternoon!!

Summed his recent form up that game. Struggles making a simple pass, looks well off the pace and then whips in a world class delivery. Still think he needs a rest.

The diagnosis of his problem is becoming clear. Maybe he is uncomfortable (and always knackered) and (thus protesting against ) the deep role in the midfield. Like against stoke, when he went to the right, he came alive and looked free and confident and created a few chances after that switch.

Maybe just maybe, he should be used as one of the options in the front three.

Players like Silva and DeBruyne will give the ball away because they are looking to play forward 70% of the time not just sideways and backwards....they have to be brave on the ball which means they will not get it right every time...there are numerous players at clubs throughout the league with over 90% ball retention but check out how many balls are dangerous passes or longer than 10yards there are there won't be many....

Dave hardly ever gives the ball away, kev is a high risk player get your head around that and you'll understand him

Great switch by Pep to put him out wide, even though his form is a bit flaky at the moment he has so much ability he can create a goal in a split second.

Give him a more free role (and some rest) and the best will come out of him. I think the way Pep wants his team to play doesn't fit for him.

Looked dead on his feet. Gave the ball away too much but has the amazing ability to create chances. Yet again if we'd converted those chances he'd be a hero.
