Kevin De Bruyne - 2016/17 performances

He is better on the right because Kun likes those type of crosses so it's either him or Sterling over there for me. He is ineffective in the middle at the moment. Too lightweight and passing off.
Sums it up for me, his form in the middle has been average at best for a few weeks now and we've been carrying him too often but he can still put in a peach of a cross from the wing.

Wonder if he's second guessing himself? He has started taking too many touches before releasing the pass. One in the first half especiallynwhere sane would have been away but kev took 2 touches too many and the time he released it sane was offside. Also his accuracy has hit the floor.

He's woefully off form at the minute, he's making simple mistakes with his passing and I think he's struggling with the demands of the system.
Yet still there is not one other player in the team that can find the pass to Sergio today. I agree with you, he's struggling for a bit of form but seriously I don't understand some of the reactions on here from certain fans. Re: demands of the system - a big problem lies with us not having powerful fullbacks who can give players like Kevin extra runners to find and also get back to close space, this leaves the midfield very vulnerable. That said some of the play by the younger players today was excellent. The future is bright and I believe once we get young strong fullbacks our team will be almost unstoppable.

I wish all our problems are big enough as KDB. Not sure what are people expecting from him. Yes, he misplaces few passes but that's because he is always looking to create a chance. Guy would probably had 25-30 assists this season if Aguero and Sterling wouldn't need 5 chances to score. And double of that of pre-assist wonder passes where he launches another player player to create a chance. What else would you expect from a player of his kind, there is Clichy for safe passes.
Singled out for praise on MOTD for his performance against Liverpool. Feels like people on here have set their standards on KDB a little bit too high after his first season.

Certainly not at his best, but far from one of our bigger problems, created our 3 biggest chances of the match today, which isn't uncommon for him even when he has a poor game.

Everyone around where I sit thought he was shit today, but the match of the day clips apparently prove otherwise, its a pity they didn't show the numerous misplaced simple passes.

I really rate KdB, but he is really out of form right now, great cross aside, for me me he needs a break,

Even when not playing at his best he created the three best moments in the match...the pass to Silva for the Sterling non penalty, the world class pass for Sergio's goal and the brilliant run and chipped pass to Sergio at the end for what should have been the winner. We know he has not been at his best recently but some of the abuse that he was given today by so called City fans was sickening. And these people here on Bluemoon talking about 89 minutes of dross and one good pass are not much better.

He was still meh in a lot of the general play today but some of the criticism on here is way over the top. He produced four word class incisive passes today that all could/should have led to goals ... only giving him props for the one that did is one eyed bollox.

I know what I an about to say is a bit glib. But hey. The guy has got a 1 year old boy. He probably just been through the most sleep deprived, knackered, wonderfully distracting year of his life. He probably hardly knows what day of the week it is. His brain has gone to mush. Give him a bit more time, and his mind will come good again.

The stupidity in this thread I will never get. If you want 90% ball retention go get Michael fucking Carrick as your CM.

Without KDB we wouldn't be able to have that many chances to score, let alone a single goal.

He looks completely knackered. I don't think he is a natural athlete but I suppose Pep is keeping him in the team for individual moments of brilliance, which he produced again for the goal. He really does need a rest though.

How do you give a break to your most dangerous midfield player? The problem Pep has is that literally nobody else in the squad can do what Kev does. He can be truly atrocious for 89 minutes then produce the cross that wins the game.

His form is really bad but a bit baffled by the criticism he's receiving for yesterday's performance. He was as good/bad as anyone else in midfield and he did more of the simple things well than in recent games. His passing, the tough stuff through balls etc, is still a little off. But we're talking about a foot here or a foot there. It'll come again.

I agree that he needs a rest, but I would be disappointed not to see his name on the team sheet every week - He's the first name I still look for despite being a little off form

Like I said perhaps the standards are being set too high, he's always misplaced plenty of passes, his qualities are in creating chances - and he created numerous big chances again yesterday, and hit the post.

He started out in this role pretty well, but the deeper he is the more obvious & dangerous his misplaced passes look, reckon that's half the issue. Misplacing a pass from the wing or just outside the opposition box isn't so unexpected, doing it at the halfway line or even deeper makes it far more noticeable & more dangerous.

Kev looks knackered. No one else gives us what he does and that's why Pep keeps playing him. I think though sometimes he should be moved forward into an AM position (where he'd still be brilliant) 'coz he certainly isn't an athlete like Dinho to consistently play CM.

I think people's perception is too flawed when they react to each players' performances right after the game. I didn't see the Liverpool one, so downloaded it and watched the game with calmness (and being sober!). already knowing the result, sometimes even reverting the play, and what I thought was he was very good in the first half actually. For example, played a wonderful through ball to Silva who then put the cross to Sterling (and Aguero), when both were fouled in the box via red card offences.

Then yeah, he seemed to be in a hurry to play the vertical pass in the second and fucked it up oftentimes, which is a shame indeed, but let's say Otamendi would have had his first and second half performances switched, his thread with 'motm' messages wouldn't bee as much bumped. And back to Kevin, yes, he looked knackered in the second but still managed to play that one killer ball and almost scored the deciding goal.

In any case, it's just a bit pointless to debate his role now as it's true what the above poster mentions: there is no alternative for him and we can't really afford currently to leave him out (this applies to Silva even more, of course). Hopefully it's all in the mind and he'll get back to his best soon enough.

KDB reportedly won't be part of the international fixtures for Belgium against either Greece or Russia, due to a groin injury.

Update:
RECTIFICATION: @DeBruyneKev is UNSURE for the game of tomorrow (pain at the groin). Nothing definitieve yet.
