Don't listen to whatever this guy is babbling about, lol. (How does a "u" sound like "yu" in a word like "run" or "pull"? :-) ).

For a non-Dutch / English speaker, who wants to pronounce De Bruyne as close to correct with sounds known from English, you should quite simply say "the burner". Then go on and make that "de brurner". That's as close as native English speakers will come to pronouncing his name correctly.

This pronunciation debate ought to be fun. Anyone who watches that City video where he tells you how to pronounce it is a cheater.

You guys simply don't have an equivalent for the "uy" (=ui) sound in his name. Closest thing to it are sounds like "we were" and "burn" or on the other side of the spectrum, something like "rare". Basically it's something in between, but you'd probably be twisting your tongue trying that. But definitely nothing like "oy!" :-)

No issue if you were of the impression thats me, having fun instead, on doesn't get a lot of opportunity's to go pronunciation nazi on Anglospherians. Besides, he wasn't actually correcting me, he was correcting the guy in the video, and i agree that the guy in the video was wrong

But personally i think De (not the) Br"euh"ne is perhaps more simple atleast if you can say "euh" like a flemmisch person would.

Pronunciation nazying besides, does appear that a lot of problems have issues with it still, even when Kev pronounced his name in interview the interviewer had trouble to pronounce it after some attempts.
