The greatest player to ever wear the shirt... but the time is right

All well and good saying he's pain free and fully fit for the first time in a long time... but for how long?

His injury record over the last couple of years suggests the next injury is probably only just round the corner

The last thing I'd want to see is him stay another year, hardly feature and when he does he's a shadow of his former self

I really couldn't imagine him wanting to sign for any other prem side out of respect for us

Nothing would surprise me in football.

However, It looks like he wants a new environment completely. If he was desperate to stay in the PL, I'd imagine we may have found a solution and he stays here.

In the end, it'll come down to the offers he gets. Him making his mind up to leave made me think he's wanting to go to another country and enjoy his fooball in a less difficult league while finishing of his career.

But if a PL team came in with a better offer than anyone else, then who knows?

If he goes to another english club then he will very much sully his legacy at city and like i said, bar yesterday i will remember him for whatt he was not what he is right now because bar yesterday in most of the games this season like most of the team he has quite simply not shown up.
Given what he said about his family I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he stayed in the PL and I don’t think he’ll sully his legacy at all.

We don’t want him and yet he clearly said, yesterday, that he’s playing pain free for the first time in ages and he wants to carry on playing. If Newcastle, Spurs or even Arsenal offered him a contract why would he turn them down, unless his heart is set on the MLS or a massive payday in Saudi?

i think going to one of our immediate rivals would sting a bit tbf

It would

But do players see it that way? - not saying some players aren't loyal but if Kev has aspirations to still play at the highest level and one of our rivals did offer him a better contract than anyone else, maybe he takes it.

It all depends on the offers he gets and what his aspirations are after leaving City. Does he wanna still play PL standard football? Or has he decided to play somewhere like MLS which would be easier work from him? For all the stick USA gets as a place, there's some really beautiful and good places to raise your kids if you have the dough.

If he is still hell bent on playing at the highest level and a rival decides to offer him a great contract, then don't be at all surprised to see him take it.

I saw what he was capable of yesterday and am saddened by the thought of him leaving ... but also completely concur with the need to rebuild for next season and the future. I've not read the entire thread but has any more been said about his contract ending at the end of the regular season and then signing a new short term deal to enable him to play at the Club World Cup ?

Kev was always at his best when he’s playing constantly and in a rhythm, we know how it used to take him a few games to get the radar back etc so people calling for him to stay and play 60 minutes here and there I don’t think would work for anyone.

I imagine he still thinks he can play regularly and to his usual/old standard. If we thought he could we wouldn’t be letting him leave.

For me personally next season would rather say "We sure are missing Kevs brilliance" a small handful of times rather than potentially saying "Boy Kev just isn't the same" every couple of games. Reminder that father time remains undefeated and Kev hasn't been the poster child of fitness the last couple of seasons.

In an ideal world he and the club come to an agreement on a wage cut and a diminished role to keep him as fresh as possible and getting the most impact without running him into the ground while also bringing in someone like Wirtz to transition the squad but that doesn't seem very likely. Now if the club let Kev go and don't bring in a creative midfielder of major talent then it'll just be a massive blunder by the club.

He showed his class by taking the game into his own hands and gave the team the confidence they needed to turn it around. He has struggled for fitness the last two seasons though, so let us enjoy his remaining games for us. Personally I hope he stays for the club World Cup, if only to give Phil a rest in the summer, which he desperately needs.

Other thing to bear in mind is that playing generally once per week will impact on matters. All of gundo, Kev and kova were pretty good yesterday with a weeks rest and the sun out.
As others have said, it needs to signal quality replacement pretty much done.

If he can find the form to get us a cup, a top four finish, and one last bumper contract somewhere else for him and his family then everyone can finish the season with good memories.

Thinking about this decision I would rather let him stay another 12 months.

The squad needs big changes and a lot of other players need to go either alongside Kev or instead of him.

It’s probably emotional but I would keep him. Ask me tomorrow and I will have probably changed my mind again.

Can he stay fit and ready to go? Or is it wishful thinking? Iv seen him walk around looking lost a lot this season.
