On top of this news it made me think....who can you see in the current squad will reach this status of legend of the club when they do leave?

There are the obvious in Haaland and Rodri and probably Foden.....
Gundo already did ....Bernardo is another big shout as well

But is there actually anyone else after those of the current squad moving forward that we can see rising to this level of consistent performance and leaderships that can go on to emulate the likes of KDB, David Silva and Sergio, Kompany, Zabba Ferna and Yaya? - the aura and ability those players had right from the off was there for all to see....

I actually cant see many of the players moving forward achieving that

Shows you how spoilt we have been
I think there’s levels to it.

Bernardo is on the Zabba, Fernandinho level. For me I think Stones is there as well.

Kompany, Aguero, Yaya, Silva, KDB untouchable.

Watching those clowns on Sky there try and talk about an all time prem side, I think we’re gonna be hard pressed to do an all time City 11 in the not too distant future.

They should name the extended stand the KDB stand. He deserves it. Never be another Colin Bell. Never will be another KDB.

Not only have his legs gone, the radar is broken too. Dare I say, but it looks a bit pitiful seeing him play now, this generational talent slowly ceding to the march of time.

A truly amazing, match-winning, world class footballer, the likes of which we won't see again.

Cheers Kevin.

Totally agree with this. Sad that he is leaving but 100% the correct decision, should have been last summer truth be told. Thanks for the memories Kev, you’ve been an amazing player to watch

Was in that away end. Didn’t even see it hit the net, just knew that once he’d hit it that it was going in. Unfortunately so did about 10 lads in rows behind me and we all piled on top of each other, limbs everywhere!

Edit: I was upper tier. Lower tier limbs were shite
Lower tier? It was bedlam. One of my favourite aways

Too early to tell about the younger players.

For instance, Gvardiol is better than young Stones. Khusanov at 20 is probably as good as Kompany was at that age. Gonzalez at 23 is at least as good as Ferna was at 23, maybe better. Savinho at 20 is quite promising, certainly not worse than Foden or Vin Jr when they were 20. Marmoush may get much better, etc.

And then you have Bobb, O'Reilly, Reis. One of them may become a world beater.

Good points these. We have some cracking young players. Sometimes they never get any better once they hit a certain age, sometimes they never stop getting better, so you never know what they might become but signs are good so far with a few of them.

Vitor Reis was wanted by Madrid and Bayern and it’s said that all clubs were gutted they missed out on him. Plus Jumah Bah is impressing and playing very well for Lens by all accounts, each game he’s started since he joined (St Ettienne, Rennes, Marseille) they’ve kept a clean sheet with him being very active defensively with good stats.

Our back line is potentially going to be excellent in a few years’ time.

But you can just never tell when a player will just stop developing. Some players have 15 years of excellence, some players have 5. Some have their best years from 19-24, others from 24-29 and some end up having a top class end to their careers between 29-34 where they’d not been at that level when they were young.

De Bruyne himself is now just not able to keep up with the demands that have been placed on his body over the years; lots of big injured, huge amount of top level football and pressure to win.

Does anybody think De Bruyne will return in some capacity to City, whatever that might look like, or if he has a clean disconnection (return to Belgium football or retire completely from football)?
He doesnt come across as the type of person that would go into coaching - supposedly he is not the vocal type in the dressing room like Kompany was for instance or even Gundo and Ferna.

Something like an ambassador role or something similar maybe?

KdB for me is the best midfieldplayer ever at City. Yesa big statement and hard to prove, but for me he is. Silva, Bell … all fantastic. But KdB was something special for us. Big game player with a mind two steps ahead of anyone else. The best in assists ever. He deserves a statue and a fantastic goodbye. This is a player worth watching his highlights in a blue top. Im grateful to be a blue and been able to watch him play for us. A decade of fun and oh’s and ah’s.

Not keeping our best player is a crime.

He makes any normal PL team, a title contender.
Hopefully United & Liverpool will stay away from him, It will be really painful to see him wearing their shirts.

Saw a stat this week that he is still the best player in the league this season at chances created per 90 mins. I think people are comparing him to his magnificent prime when really it should be a question of who are we bringing in that is better than him currently. Nobody in the league could do what he did today.... the guy is irreplaceable. If he was happy to take reduced wages alongside a less prominent role it was a no brainer offering him a new contract. Even if it was a pay as you play or something along those lines. Pick him in a midfield with some youth/pace alongside him and he could still do a job for us.
