No but the comments in here about him was more that he has to leave after his performance
The questions that have to be asked are concerning his physical ability? I don't think anyone doubts he still has the brains to put in the performance he gave yesterday. It's more, does he have the legs to do it on more than just the occasional game? If he hasn't, are the club prepared to keep him on as more of a squad player? And is he prepared to stay on in such a role, possibly (?) on a reduced salary? If the answer to both is yes, it's a no brainer. Keep him.

Mixed feelings on his comments after the game. If he had played more often this season like he did v Palace then a new deal would have been signed.

Sentiment aside the squad is in serious need of top quality players. I would rather keep Kev than Gundo for another season. Move the latter into a coaching role but maybe he ain’t ready.

It’s a tough emotional situation. On the one hand you have arguably our greatest player and on the other the clubs decision going forward.

We don’t know the discussions and maybe a deal was offered but declined or maybe the club decided no based on his injuries and age.

You could also argue that we should have let him go last season.

Anyway, all the club can do is make the decision.

His performance today was great and how we have missed that this season.

Removing club legends is never easy. The thought of him pulling on a dip/rag/arse shirt is unhealthy.

Modric is 39, I am sure Perez will love to replace him with a young star KDB 34

He will get some memorable seasons with him.

On top of that, he will get him for Free like Arnold and Mbappe before him.

Modric is a totally different player from Kev and they play different positions.

Another baffling decision to let this guy walk in a long line of recent odd decisions from the club.

Kdb has always needed a few games to get back into the groove following injuries. He is still probably our best player when on form
There is nothing baffling about it. He is an older player in decline with increasing levels of injury.

Sure he'll have flashback type games that resemble his old self. That's normal for the great ones. Bur he'll never be the consistent Kevin he was 5 years ago. And a version of that 5-6 years ago Kevin is what we need in the future. Not the aging injury prone version.

Lets just enjoy these flashback performances from an all-time great. But by God lets not read more into it than there needs to be.
So after he finally plays free of pain , Pep decided that he is not needed next season !

Txiki will leave now, Pep will follow him shortly and yet they decided that the current best player of the team should leave !
He is the greatest player the team has ever had. But he is not the current best player. Great game. But the decision to move him is the right one.

100% correct, leave with the crowd wanting more.

And talk of staying in the English game is wrong from him, please KDB don't destroy your legacy with us.

Go over to the MLS/Saudi for a couple of seasons and fill your boots, then come home.

Saw a stat this week that he is still the best player in the league this season at chances created per 90 mins. I think people are comparing him to his magnificent prime when really it should be a question of who are we bringing in that is better than him currently. Nobody in the league could do what he did today.... the guy is irreplaceable. If he was happy to take reduced wages alongside a less prominent role it was a no brainer offering him a new contract. Even if it was a pay as you play or something along those lines. Pick him in a midfield with some youth/pace alongside him and he could still do a job for us.
Maybe he didn’t want a pay cut. Gutted his time is coming to an end, but felt the same when other legends went. I trust the club to move forward in the right way.

CFG should be offering him a good deal to transfer to New York city, with an option to return as ambassador / coach whatever once he retires if he wanted to.

Sentiment and love for the man aside, the last 2 season have shown his is now at the stage where any injury is taking longer to recover from and we are, now focusing on building the next generation of talent with a look at the next 5-10 years and everything set squad wise post Pep. we havee already made the error of waiting to long to do this as this season has shown.

though it does have a feel of Gundo not being extended then us regretting it last season also.

He had a good game yesterday in a wide open match bit I can't remember his last one.
True, I still think he would be better used in front of the back four directing the play, but hey what do I know? It’s sad to think him and Erling won’t play together again though.

Does anybody think De Bruyne will return in some capacity to City, whatever that might look like, or if he has a clean disconnection (return to Belgium football or retire completely from football)?

He doesnt come across as the type of person that would go into coaching - supposedly he is not the vocal type in the dressing room like Kompany was for instance or even Gundo and Ferna.

Something like an ambassador role or something similar maybe?
He has done some of his coaching badges, he is definitely interested in coaching

Exactly mate. Also the fact he said he has only been pain free for 6 games was it?
Love Kev to bits but we have seen the best of him. Time is right for him to move on 100%.
Looking forward to the future

Lots of people always mention Ambassador role but what does that mean exactly ? i always associate it with a player who was well liked at a club but didnt earn the big money, so a club gives them a meet and greet role over drinks and a meal before a home game telling stories of old times .
Cant see Kev doing that or does the title Ambassador mean more ?

Surely in order to address diversity completely there is a need to have a ‘ginger’ on the pundit circuit.

Pep is being ruthless, that’s what makes him a winner. We need players who can make a difference every game against the very best teams in the world and Palace aren’t that.

I actually think Gundo has been more effective for us in more games but think he’ll be going too

A fit De Bruyne is still our most creative player.

I can think of 5 or 6 that should go before him, which means he should still be here next season.

Absolutely mate. I pretty much sent that exact message to a blue yesterday at half time. Generally he's played in a midfield that look like they're wading in treacle and a labouring Haaland. Makes a huge difference having some youth and energy around him. Marmoush's desire, Mcatee, Nico, O'Reilly getting forward from fullback etc.

Maybe he didn’t want a pay cut. Gutted his time is coming to an end, but felt the same when other legends went. I trust the club to move forward in the right way.

Read an article a few weeks ago that he was happy to accept 150k a week. Apparently wanted to stay in the Premier League to secure his place at World Cup. Know you can't always believe what's in the papers, but sounded very Kev-like.
