When fit, he’s still a world beater. By his own admission, he has nt been fully fit for most of the season due to injuries, but he’s putting in hard minutes and getting subbed off with a few mins to go. He’s one of the hardest workers, but, and I can’t emphasize this enough, Pep is playing him in the wrong positions!

He played CF, or most advanced midfielder, in the last game, which is bollocks. He needs to be a roving midfielder, who can move across the attacking midfielder line, and create chances.

Worlds best assisted and we play him at CF???
Oh, and we flog him to death chasing down the ball on the press!! BONKERS!! It’s like having expensive champagne with fish and chips!!

Give him a 1+1 option at £200,000 plus bonuses, with caveats, and let’s stop fucking around.
If we signed someone on 200k a week off the back of KDBs levels of performances this season, I would want our decision makers sent to the loony bin. You pay for what they will produce on that next contract, not what they have produced in the past. The man is 34 this summer, has had a torrid time with injuries and he is off the pace of top level football. It happens to everybody. It isn't a bad thing saying it. We have a big rebuild too, he is on a lot of money. If the rebuild wasn't needed then I imagine we might have asked him to stay on lesser terms. We might not be afforded that luxury now and 200k a week for his output is eye watering.

We've not had a fully fit Kev this season until the last few games (and look at the results even with him losing half a yard of pace from when he said he's now playing without any pain).

Big Erl hasn't had a fully fit Kev with him either this season!!!!!

Personally I'd offer him a reduced contract for 12 months with a deal to go to NYC afterwards. I'd also move heaven & earth to get that German guy in. We've seen it can take even world class players a season to click with us, Kev could both help bridge that gap and mentor him.

All seems a no-brainer to me.

Kevs problem is he hasn't adapted his style of play to compensate for his reduced physicality

He's improved recently, but his current performances are still a FAR cry from him at his best

He's not good enough anymore, he's 34 in June and he can't stay away from injuries.....he'll be even worse next year

Yea he COULD have stayed but it's just prolonging the inevitable and him leaving forces the club into getting a replacement

The very game after he said he played without any pain was Everton away and he was shite. He was given a 2/10 in some places. You don't lose all of your ability over night, you just see it less and less like we have this season

Grandsons just been watching this on that there YouTube, cringy music but a nice comp of Kevs best bits,

I understand your concerns, but stand by my beliefs. IF, and who knows, IF he is as fit as he needs to be for City, it’s a no brainer to give him a 1 yr option extension.

Now, show me the City midfield he can’t get into next season, and I might agree that other players make him unnecessary, but with Gundo, Kova, and probably Bernie leaving this summer, that’s FOUR MAJOR midfielders that need significant replacements. I don’t think we get there, but maybe Viana has been listening to me all season and has 4 very good, young, midfielders with SIZE, SPEED & STRENGTH to complement Rodri, Nico G, Nico O’R and Rico.

Show me the SQUAD that’s better without him than with him, with the above attributes, and I’m with you. Oh, and to stop flogging him as a forward who has to waste ridiculous amounts of energy chasing shadows would be a great way to extend his abilities with ease!!!

You are missing his age and fitness issues. He can't be relied on, he never has been reliable fitness wise and it will only get worse with age. You can count on one hand the good games he's had this season and he has played a fair bit of footy. You didn't take in a word I originally said so this is probably a pointless exchange, if we didn't need the rebuild we do he might have got an extra year on reduced terms. He is currently taking up a spot, on mega money, your suggestion of 200k a week would still be mega money for an injury prone ageing player. It is idiotic, for every Palace game this season there's 5-10 stinkers. He would be kept for sentiment only, because what he'd offer on the pitch wouldn't be value for money at 200k a week.

Just a question. How often does Guardiola really change his mind? He doesn't seem like the sort to go back on a decision for any reason.

Hasn’t he said he’s willing to take a pay cut if it means he stays at the highest level for his World Cup 26 place? Wether we like it or not i think he ends up at a top ten premier league club
I’ve not seen any mention from him about a pay cut.

Which players have had had one year contract extensions? And what wage levels?

I wonder if he now thinks he should have hired an agent.

I think he’s been playing him there because he doesn’t have the legs to play deeper, if he’s already high up the pitch he can affect the game, that’s the feeling I get.

Your recency bias is clouding your vision.

I completely understand your point, and the FACT that he sacrificed his body for the Treble, leading to surgery on a hamstring that was “like wet paper,” should help you see that the last two seasons were the anomaly.

Speaking of “not taking a word in,” what of the suggestion that, like many aging players, he be given a slightly more tailored role, instead of being flogged to death as a false nine chasing shadows in the high press? How about putting v him back into his more natural position of right midfield or left midfield, where he can make the crosses and create the assists we have lived off for the last decade.

You are right on one thing, though, it IS a pointless discussion. He will leave and we will never know what kind of transitional leader he might have been in the team.

If he doesn’t have the legs, why is he using him for the high press and having him sprint around aimlessly?

It’s like taking a fucking Rolls Royce to a track day and complaining about it costing $4,000 in tires and still not being as agile as your WRX!!

His game is distribution, yet we are currently playing him as a striker/second striker.

“World’s best assister, and one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League, being flogged to death in the high press! Inability to affect games in same way leads Pep to declare him too old!”

If I was the slightest bit conspiratorial, I’d suggest Pep plays him there to make him look old and tired by 80 mins, and sub him off every game, but I’m sure Pep would never manipulate a player like that, right???

That's not true. Gundo himself said that the offer came too late. It wasn't about money, we took too long and he already agreed with Barca.
He wanted two years and the club were humming and hahhing, so he took the free to Barca. As it turns out, he’s playing that second year now, and we lost his last great season to them!

That's not correct.

"In the end, it wasn't about a year or two. It didn't hit the runtime. City waited a relatively long time for the talks to really get more intense. If that had happened a little earlier, the starting position would have been different," Gundogan told German publication Bild.

I stand corrected and take Gundo at his word. Thank you for the correction.
