In my opinion, it would be a huge blow to the club and a real slap in the face to everyone, fans included.
He’s undoubtedly aware of the intense rivalry between us and Liverpool, and I’m sure he has plenty of tempting offers on the table. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but for me, it'd be really hard to swallow, and my view of him would be tainted, regardless of whether he’s a Liverpool fan or not.
He’s been an integral part of our success over an extended period—our talisman and our captain. He’s an intelligent guy, and fingers crossed, he’ll realise that while some may wish him well, making that move would alienate a lot of City fans.
Put the shoe on the other foot—when Gerrard left, if he’d turned down LA Galaxy and joined City, their fans would have been up in arms.
