In today's MEN there's a story, presumably from his book, making out that Keegan left because David Bernstein wouldn't back him. That's a shocker of a claim from Keegan if that's what he's said. I've heard the story from DB (which I've no reason to disbelieve) and it was the other way round. By going to John Wardle over Bernstein's head to get his way on signing Fowler, he fatally undermined Bernstein, who left soon afterwards. It as 2 years later that Keegan left, having been indulged by Wardle to the point that we had to sell SWP to keep our heads above water as soon as Pearce took over.
