Key Bridge, Baltimore, has collapsed.

It was nothing to do with gender, the ship suffered a brief power outage just before the bridge. So some sort of mechanical failure at completely the wrong time.
Just said to the wife what an unbelievable set of circumstances that the boat suffers failure, hits the bridge and then people crossing the bridge. All at the same time. The ultimate definition of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Dropped its anchors to try and slow down. Seems nothing the crew could have done to correct the malfunction would have been enough. The fact that radio’d in, and in turn the bridge was then closed shows it is looking like a low as possible death rate here.

Sounds like they stopped more going on, but it's 3 miles long.
The bridge itself is 3 miles long, but the collapsed bit is quite a lot less than that, as it only bridged where the ships went under in a fairly narrow channel.

There are also 2 power pilons close by, that are obviously about the same width (slightly larger), that take power lines high above the ships.

Is that what initial views think happened then?
