Kindle Fire HD

My previous kindle went to the great land fill site in the sky a few weeks ago. The Fire HD is a nice piece of kit and I definitely would be tempted if I didn't have a first generation iPad already. As I would only use the kindle for reading books I settled for a Paperwhite in the end as it has a build in light (very useful on planes) and the ridicules battery life of my last kindle.

My Paperwhite has just arrived today.....But themissus has swiped it and put it away for Christmas.... :-(

The Kindle Fire HD is a tablet you can watch films on and stream.

I should know as I have been doing it all afternoon.

Yes you can like he iPad it's in HTML5 but is wont play flash

Well, that's not as straightforward as you state.

Officially, it doesn't support flash which is the same for any new Android Tablet like Nexus 7, running Android 4.0 +. However, there's still ways to have it installed.

But, that's officially.

Have you rooted yours?

I really want to use it to watch live City games whilst at work. My best bet so far is that i have installed sopcast and ustream. both apps seem to work but have yet to test it on matchday. Do you have any better suggestions?

Really nervous about following the online instructions available for rooting. I have never done it before and if i brick it ten the mrs will kill me!

You shouldn't need to root your device to use Flash. On normal Android devices and Kindle tablets you can do something called "sideloading", which is installing an app from outside the store. This doesn't need a rooted device.

Here are instructions for sideloading on the Kindle Fire HD:
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.lovemyfire.com/side-loading-apps-on-kindle-fire.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.lovemyfire.com/side-loading- ... -fire.html</a>

Here is a thread on XDA giving a copy of Flash you can sideload onto it:
<a class="postlink" href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1774336</a>

You will want to install a browser that can use the Flash plugin. The best one is probably Dolphin.

Cheers. I looked all that up and I did that the other day.

I have a version of adobe flash player on there/google chrome/dolphin/sopcast/ustream.

Cant watch streaming sites like firstrowsports for example as it says that i need to update flashplayer/java script is not enabled when it is.

Would rooting alone resolve this issue or is there another way?

As long as you have a newer version of Flash installed, plugins enabled in Dolphin and access the page through Dolphin your streaming websites should work.

Nope! Cant do it!

Tried it on both Chrome and Dolphin. There does not seem to be mention of pluins on either.

For -dolphin/menu/settings/web content. am i in the right place? Probably not knowing me!

If anyone could provide more specific assistance then it would be greatly appriciated.

Cheers tho blue.

ps, i have flash player 11.1 on my device. Should that one work?

What's not to like?

Kindle is an Amazon product

Amazon = Huge sales in excess of £3billion in the UK, minimal tax ..less the £5mill paid to HMRC

I don't like that very much.

Oh, and new ebooks for kindle being more expensive than hardback version, but I understand this is to do with the publisher and the VAT to some degree.

Read the thread from start to finish and still confused. Can I or can I not watch match streams on the iPad?

On shadys blog all the links require ilivid or flash. Can I get these on the iPad? Also can I fire the match to the telly using the Apple TV?
