King Kev or Colin The King

As wonderful a player as David Silva was, I'd say he wasn't a leader on the pitch as the other two were and he simply didn't score enough goals for a player of his talents.
There was something about Merlin that made me gasp, in a way only Kinkladze has before.

Too young to really appreciate King Colin in his pomp other than via footage. It’ll be interesting to see if Kev gets the same raucous adulation after the Bournemouth game, as Colin did on his return v Newcastle, Boxing Day 77’ ?

Was at that game and hairs on my neck stood up and cheared

We all know that Kev's final farewell will be choreographed to the nth degree by the club, with fireworks, music, guard of honour etc, and the 'overkill' will start via the club website/twitter/Facebook very soon. It's the way stuff is done nowadays.

I'll never forget Colin's return. No particular hype or fuss by the club, just a substitute coming back after injury, whose first steps onto the grass was loudly welcomed by the 45,000 crowd.

Grown men, women, youngsters, many in tears, cheering in tribute to a man who had been through two years of hell, fighting to get back to fitness after a horrific injury.

A man who could, and would, run all day for City or England. A man who never whinged or moaned about heavy challenges but just got on with his job. A man who was a great midfielder, defender, striker... Colin Bell could do everything better than everyone else.

Up there with the true  greats from the greatest era of football... Cruyff, Maradona, Best, Moore, Beckenbaur, Puskas, etc.

Colin Bell didn’t need to be hyped up.

Yeah, I too have a feeling the club hype may detract from, rather than add to, the occasion.

Think I have said something like what I am about to post on here before. My take on this is that the greatest players of Colin Bells era would still be the greatest players now. The best players of that era would still be the best players now playing on the awful pitches they had to play on. Todays players play and train on pristine billiard table smooth pitches, not Whythenshawe park. Would the greatest and best players of today still manage to be the greatest and best players playing and training on park pitches and mudbath stadium pitches, I think most would not achieve the levels they reach in todays game if they went back in time. Of course there would be exceptions and Kev is certainly one of them. As you probably can tell I am firmly stuck on the fence and have no intention of getting off as having seen them both play I am undecided. An everlasting memory of the crowd at Bells return from injury ranks as high as any last minute Premier League wins including the 93.20. It was an emotional outpouring of a crowd that had witnessed his long road back to fitness and many like myself saw his injured knee for the first time, and knew it would not be the same King Colin we knew before his injury. Great players are great players and if you never saw both play think yourself lucky you saw one of them because you just might have to wait as long as I did before another one comes along.

Let's get real here... City's greatest players will will always be Colin Bell, Peter Doherty, and Billy Meredith.

These modern day multi millionaires playing on carpets wouldn't last two minutes on a proper football pitch with a heavy ball.

KDB comes way behind David Silva imo. A great player, but overrated by the media and pundits. David Silva was an artist.
Love these all our yesterday's comparisons. The players from other eras wouldn't get near the modern day players and would be blowing through their arses after 10 minutes. If they played at the modern pace on these "carpets".

I'm a creator, provider kind of guy.

Silva was our metronomic tempo setter.
Very close between him and KDB - but Silva's intricacy, guille and robustness shade it for me. Common assaults against him every game, but he rode it and could give it back.

We'll never know, but I'd rather have Bell, Lee, and Summerbee alongside me in a battle than any of our current players.

Real men playing real football on natural surfaces.

You write one 1st explaining how on earth is kdb overrated and is miles behind silva then I’ll write mine. If anything he’s underrated by the media

He's a great player in an era of largely average over-hyped football. The media absolutely adore him because great players are currently few and far between.

In my opinion, he's not been as influential in recent years for City as David Silva, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, or Fernandinho.

It's all subjective of course, but having watched City for over 64 years, I'm of the opinion that he's not our greatest ever player.

Rodri? If I were in the trenches.. that’s my guy.
