As I said before, my dad will always say 'two relegations in three seasons'. And he has a point.

But anyone who had an ST 96-98 (except my dad!) knows how poor the team was (as well as lacking leadership and confidence). Kinky was almost always the only bit of joy for us in those games in (what is now) the Championship.

Sat through some turgid stuff with (no offence to these honest pros) Beesley, Briscoe, Wassall, Heaney, Van Blerk, etc....but then Kinky would do something magic and you'd have some faint hope again that we might pull ourselves up the table.

It's the hope that kills you.

Wine hasn't arrived yet - will do a Jilly Goolden style review once we've had a swig or two on Fathers Day.

2 relegations in 3 seasons but it didn't have to be for him - Barca came in for him after that first relegation and he chose to stay at City

Yeah, what might have been for him. Ajax the wrong team too. Doesn't seem gutted at all when interviewed though. The love for him from Blues was pretty unique, even after he left.

I remember last home game of 96-97 season too. Continuous chants of 'Kinky's got to stay' before it was confirmed he was staying (I think with a new contract).

Verdict: had half a bottle of the red today on father's day...very quaffable! I'm not expert but good flavour and not too heavy. Definitely worth the half price at 14 quid, and a bit more tbh.

So his Hale wine bar and adjacent cigar shop has gone down the swanney, although I would say that was doomed from the start.
He is now looking for UK distributors for his wine. 8,000 bottles currently in a bonded warehouse. Only problem is that it has Chateau on the label and won’t be released by the FSA.
£40 bottles now been touted around at £7 a pop minus the label.
Lots of bar owners now filling their boots with the ‘white label’. Typical city comes to mind.

Was there in 97 just after the civil war and the place was fooked, seen pics since and it looks amazing.

Yes I must go back before I'm too old.

I started a City SC when I came back, still keep in contact with one of the guys.

Showed Kinky a letter from the Georgians addressed to him at his wine signing thing.
