Knighthood for Kiddo?

The argument about whether the honours system is good or bad is for off topic, I couldn't care less to be honest, but as the system exists, and there is no sign of it going away, then Brian Kidd deserves one as much as many of the other receivers who have had them, and more so than many of the undeserved awards too.

People say that a footballer (coach) is less deserving, why ? Why should a teacher who gets an award for working 40 years at the same job in the same school, be considered any better than someone who has worked his way through many jobs in different levels of the same industry, and why is some very highly paid chief executive deserving of a knighthood more than someone from the football industry ?

Brian Kidd is pretty unique, even in football, he is one of a very small number to have both played, and coached, at two rival clubs, (not to mention his time at other clubs) and to have never had a bad word for any despite his current allegiance.

Many others in football have been honoured, many for putting in a lot less than he has (such as another local person honoured - Gordon Taylor (OBE) who does next to f**k all for me), so that is why Brian is deserving in my opinion, whether you agree with the system in general or not.

I’ve still not seen any compelling pitch regarding his role or his outstanding achievements. He’s made a lifetime career of quietly being an assistant, because he couldn’t make a success of being in the #1 position. If this is what honours are for, you can’t legitimately rule out criticism of the honours system as being off topic.

The honours system is a joke.
It's a stain on our country like the monarchy and the (unelected) House of Lords.

Anyone who accepts anything like this is automatically a complete twat.

Let people's achievements represent their standing in society.
Winning an Olympic gold medal or inventing something that benefits society is a big deal.
Genuflecting to that bitch of a Queen and accepting a medal and a title is pure bollocks.

Who the fuck are you calling people twats for their views. Prick. When youve ever done anything for your country other than take, you can have a discussion where you agree to disagree. Other than that keep it fucking shut.

You disagree, fair enough, but he's given 55+ years of his life to football, mostly in Manchester, in various roles across the game, including being one of the youngest goal scorers in a european cup final, he's played at the highest level for three clubs, he's coached consistently at top clubs for over 30 years, he's still working long after he could/should have retired, he mentors young players at City even now, giving them the knowledge about our City (Manchester - not the club).

Are you posting from Osborne House on the Isle of Wight?

Bad news I'm afraid Harry (?) thanks to the Civil Wars of the 1640s, the Glorious Revolution (1688) and the Bill of Rights (1689) we only have a constitutional monarchy now so I'm perfectly entitled to slag off your granny and the corrupt honours system.

Freedom of speech (not popular with your ancestors but protected by law) ensures that you can't shut me up.
It even allows offensive idiots to be heard.
I'll leave you with a quote which illustrates my point...

Kidd certainly been around long enough and at a high enough level to receive some award but i think a Knighthood may be pushing it a little. That said there are others that are knighted that make you think WTF ? Since Mancini, when we used to see Kidd take the teamsheet into the ref's room on matchday and be more of an assistant /translator for the manager It could be that a lack of knowledge of his current role is an obstacle to any honour being awarded. No one has actually said what he does now? To me it looks like he is being kept on as a token connection to Manchester

Yes you are entitled to slag off who you wish, your opinion. Calling anyone else a twat because they dont hold your view is not. But then youre lucky we have a freedom gained over the last centuries by people who fought for.....(clue: NOT the labour party!) so that offensive idiots can be heard.

I didn't slag anyone off for their views, I slagged off the honours system and I slagged off people who accept honours. They can say what they want and so can I. Your post was a personal attack mine wasn't.

Just in case you think I'm some kind of socialist ("clue: NOT the labour party!") - I'd describe myself as socially liberal, economically conservative (note the small 'c'), a democrat and a republican.

Just to add a little diversion route thingy here: Who is to say that Kiddo hasn’t already been offered an honour of some description &, politely, said no thanks? People do say no, maybe more than we think. They don’t broadcast the people who say no after all. :-)

Has Tony Book been in Her Royal highness's honours?

Some of the work he did during the dark days could easily be considered the sporting equivalent of taking a Jap sniper nest armed only with a rubber chicken an A To Z of Glossop and Hadfield

Nobody's perfect - some of my best friends are complete twats - I have on occasion behaved like a complete twat myself.

While I was waiting for the Amazon Prime documentary I read this book...

Amazon product ASIN 147291242X
... which has some great stories about uncle Joe.

(I stand by my point about anyone accepting an 'honour' being a complete twat and give you that famous socialist Sir Alex Ferguson as a good example).
