Serb in the City: Serbia defender Aleksandar Kolarov

Manchester City are pressing ahead with their interest in Lazio left back Aleksandar Kolarov after his move to Real Madrid stalled.

Sportsmail revealed last week Lazio had lined up Portsmouth’s Nadir Belhadj as Kolarov’s replacement but fully expected the Serb to follow Jose Mourinho to Madrid.

However, Real have offered £12million for the 24-year-old — well short of Lazio’s £22m valuation.

Negotiations were expected to resume yesterday but his agent, Ernesto Bronzetti, said a deal would be difficult.

City, as ever, are wary of being used to hike the price but have already offered around £15m, and the player has told team-mates he is interested in City if his dream move to Madrid cannot be salvaged.

Roberto Mancini is a big fan of the tall, powerful Kolarov, who can also play midfield.

The City manager is piecing his new side together, with deals for Yaya Toure and David Silva expected to be ratified this week and James Milner to follow.

Mancini has also not given up on Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko. Portsmouth officials were in Rome a joint £8m deal.

Hmm don't know a lot about him to be fair but the left back position is definitely one of our weakest spots, so anything that strengthens the squad is a good thing in my book.

That is the most important bit.

That is the most important bit.

How can that be the most important bit when you have altered it to add the word "defensive"?

Lotito is flying out to Brazil today to try and reach a deal for Hernanes, they have no money to buy him so it must of come from somewhere..... Perhaps your bid has been secretly accepted?

Man City push for Kolarov

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is keen to beat off competition to sign Lazio full-back Aleksandar Kolarov this summer.

The Daily Mail understands Lazio have already lined up Portsmouth's Nadir Belhadj as Kolarov's replacement.

The 24-year-old Serbia international has been the subject of much transfer speculation over the last six months with Inter, Real Madrid and Juventus all interested.

Real Madrid have already offered £12m for Kolarov, but saw that bid rejected. They are expected to open talks again tomorrow.

In the meantime, City have also bid £15m and while the player would prefer to move to the Bernabeu, he wouldn't be opposed to playing in the Premier League.
