Manchester City are set to beat Real Madrid to the illion signing of Lazio left back Aleksandar Kolarov.
Sportsmail revealed earlier this week that Roberto Mancini was ready to raid his former club for the Serbia international and sources in Italy say the deal is expected to be confirmed before the end of the week.
Real Madrid had a £12m bid rejected for Kolarov and have instead turned their attention to Chelsea defender Ashley Cole.
Lazio have lined up Portsmouth's Nadir Belhadj as a replacement for their 24-year-old, who is said to have now agreed terms on a long-term contract at Eastlands. Mancini is a big fan of the tall, powerful Kolarov, who can also play in midfield.
Well Lazio director Igli Tare has pretty much confirmed we are after him: "The transfer to Manchester City? I cannot comment, now the situation has become extremely sensitive."Ducky_ said:Still no reliable source though.

Mancini rates Kolarov highly
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has responded to speculation that he is about to sign Lazio full-back Aleksandar Kolarov by telling Radio Sei that he is a “very good player”.
The 45-year-old also expressed his happiness at Eastland, saying that he isn’t ready to return to Italy until certain things are improved back on the peninsula.
“I miss Italy, but this is a beautiful experience for me in a club that is growing. I hope to return to an improved standard of Italian football with new stadia and people who go to the stadium to enjoy themselves,” Mancini told Radio Sei.
“Every country has its habits, but if they were to resolve these things it would be a good step forward. Now it’s a difficult moment for everyone, but the hope is this.
“Prandelli is an expert and capable tactician. I believe that there are players in Italy who can get the national team back to past levels. Football is like this: at times things go badly, if not the same teams would always win.”
Mancini then turned his attention to City and their transfer strategy.
“We are trying to improve the team. We don’t have objectives. We need to see how the transfer campaign will end… Declaring your objectives doesn’t bring luck. We’ll aim for the best.”
When asked about City’s interest in Kolarov, Mancini said: “He is a very good player too. He is young. He has improved and can still improve.”
