Kolasinac

I hope he will replace Kolarov as a second LB and 4th CB. He is a good player but not in the same level of Alex Sandro or Mendy

There's absolutely no way he'd come to be a backup to a big name left back we're signing at the same time. Not when he has other offers on the table. As much as it seems to upset people, it seems logical that Kolarov will stay. He's played a lot this season and can provide cover in two positions, one of those being left back. If we do get this guy, he'll come in as first choice for this season at least. Given he's available on a free it could be a savvy move and free up budget to go for for one or two of the marquee signings we might be after. We have about 4 or 5 positions on the pitch that desperately need addressing. Nobody signs 4 or 5 world class players in one window so you'd expect one or two of the signings will be slightly more pragmatic choices.

I'm not 100% convinced we're even interested in him but for the sake of this lets say we are...

He's a utility player, capable of playing CB, and in midfield so he wouldn't be coming in as just a back up, he'd be coming in as just that, a utility player, not as back up left back, and it would be up to Pep to convince him he's going to be important to the team even if we get someone like Sandro.

In a 60 game season, he could easily pick up 20 games at left back and another 20 between CB and midfield.

If he really wants to be guaranteed 1st choice at left backthen he can go to Arsenal and play in the Europa league with maybe a decent cup run every few years, or even stay at Schalke.

At the end of the day the best teams in Europe have that kind of squad depth, and it works because players always back themselves to get ahead of the competition.

It's happened before - think ter Stegen & Bravo both arriving at Barca at the same time.

Can't see this being true - and not sure there are any definitive links to us - just speculation. We need a top class left back (and right back) - so there's little chance of us fishing for freebies - we need to go out and buy the best we can.

Think he played mainly left but Im sure he switched during games like he does for us with Sterling.
Nah! Sane played predominantly on the right at Schalke. The left was occupied by either Max Meyer and Choupo-Moting. Sane almost never played there outside of switch overs during games.

Getting one of the best most inform left backs in the Bundesliga on a free would be an excellent move as it would free up a hell of a lot more money for other positions.

We can still buy the best full backs out there and this one on a free as a back up fullback for rotation, he's 23.

But he won't come as a backup- that's the point.

With the way Pep rotates his players that shouldn't be an issue. Even Lahm and Alaba weren't direct starters at fullback positions when Pep managed Bayern, he would rotate 'em around the pitch in different positions or rest them. Pep rotates players frequently unless they're totally useless, so he would get a decent 20-25 games or more at RB or other defensive positions where needed, maybe more. It's a different story with a manager like Mourinho, then he'd be a real back up mostly playing in EFL cup and FA cup games.

Would have been good signing for squad depth, especially as he is free, but for first choice LB, I think we can do better. Hopefully City are able to lure Alex Sandro from Juventus.
