Just a thought ------------- but could Vinnie have been 'mentally tired' after the huge effort on Wednesday and was slow to react to the initial foul on him??

That was my big worry for yesterday. After a draining 90 minutes at the Nou camp i thought we might struggle to get up for yesterdays game, but we totally were. As for the red, you have to view the two incidents involved in it separately. It was a foul yes, but once Vinnie fouled Jelavic there was only one outcome. The fact it was 10 minutes in is irrelevent, just a poor decision from Vinnie.

Has it been confirmed yet by the FA the length of ban? Im presuming its just 1.[/quote

Always thought straight red was three match ban, there again the FA make the rules up as they go along!

Only 1 if its a professional foul like denying a goalscoring opportunity mate, 3 for a violent foul etc. FA confirmed its 1 game, Would be great if the mods added this to the title to clear things up once and for al

Just basic football knowledge really.

Cascarino another dick who doesn't know the rules.

Just heard that clown on the radio! The idiots in the studio don't know the rules either.

Still, at least there's going to be a few disapointed rags at there!

football is a contact sport - thought Vinny shown too much of the ball and Jelavic was stronger - after that its a straight red

Chelski were also moaning about a foul in the lead up to Villa's goal -

We won football is a contact sport and i for one don't want the prem turned into a Spanish La Liga or CL game where players are falling over knowing that they will get a foul from the ref
It was the same as in the Barcelona game when Yaya was stronger and won the ball and we were all going mad that the ref blew for that. You can't have it both ways.

Vinnie made two mistakes, by dawdling on the ball and then pulling Jelavic down. He makes mistakes a-plenty but we forgive him for it because he's usually so immaculate.

It would have been interesting to see what Mason would have done if Vinny had grabbed hold of the ball when he went down from the initial challenge. Lots of players do it to try and make sure the referee knows it is a foul. My guess is probably free kick City, at worst free kick and booking for deliberate handball but certainly no red card.

If you are someone like John Terry or (earlier) Steve Bruce, you can do that.

If you play for City, you will just get the red card.
