Kompany statement (missing the euros)

Wonder if 'somebody' has a word?

Said to him 'if you go the euros you know what could happen...'
I don't think kompany would listen. He's a strong character and won't be told what he can and can't do. Be good for him to have the whole summer to get his full fitness back.

What else do you think clubs do with players who they can't sell on due to injury? They pay up their contracts and wish them the best. We did it with Michael Johnson.

Michael Johnson and Vincent Kompany don't deserve to be in the same sentence.

Completely different problems.

Not to mention the attitude of the individual.

I imagine that he's been given an ultimatum.

In his current condition he'd be fit enough to make the Euros but he'd break down within five minutes of the first game, therefore ending any chance of ending his career with City. But if he misses the Euros, spends three months training, resting and talking to specialists with Pep, he can come back in a better condition and manage himself into his final years.

I'm glad he's chosen the second option.
I sense this also. Of course we know he'd love to be involved with his national team but perhaps his advisors judging his current condition have advised him where his priorities lie. A fully fit Vincent for Man City next season is the most important outcome for City and for him, our inspirational captain.

Great news for City.

It may just mean Vincent has a future with us.

But he's the wrong side of 30 and if your on a five year plan he ain't the future.

Great memories Vincent lad, but Peps in charge now and what will be will be.....I hope your not done and I still want you as Captain of my team, but you may need to retire from International football to achieve that.

Feel for the guy. His country has the best team they've ever had, and he's going to miss out. Shame.

I would suspect this is as much about Belgium as it is City. He knows if he plays he is likely not to last all the games meaning the squad is short and game plan affected. Better to go as a supporter and let fully fit players fill the squad.

Glad he's being sensible and hope City benefit from this.

I don't know how serious the latest injury is, but he now has almost 4 months to rest and rehabilitate. The first time he has had that for a while.

Could be many things
Knows himself he'd break down so soon

Wants to prolong his City career as he sees success next 2/3 years and wants in

Face no criticism for announcing retirement from int football

Belgium manger told him he won't waste Squad spot on him and he saves face this way

Whatever I'm happy about it
Prove us wrong Vinny, give us one more great season

Feel sad and glad for him at the same time. Belgium probably has their best chance to win the Euros since the 80s, but the prolonged rest would be essential for him to sort out the root of the problem once and for all. And Barcelona (if the rumour is true) does have some of the best medical facilities in the world. So best of luck Vinny and get fully healthy soon.

I don't think kompany would listen. He's a strong character and won't be told what he can and can't do. Be good for him to have the whole summer to get his full fitness back.

That's the route of the problem though isn't it?

At 30yrs old I hope 'whatever' Kompany decides to do has no impact on the clubs decision to replace him in the team with a first choice CB. If he can prove his fitness he can then perhaps take up the 3rd or 4th CB position.

His injury record at City is frightening. Over 30 injuries total i believe? He is not coming back from this. I think Pep will have plans to replace him

Very measured move by VK. Fair play.

He could risk breaking down and ending his City career by going. A good couple of months off working on his injuries will help him as well as us.
The scary thing is he spent last summer sorting his injuries as well.

Maybe not but Vinny still put in fine performances against Madrid at home and in the Carling Cup final. He also scored a few goals at the start of the season. Unfortunately, Mangala hasn't come close to scoring once in two seasons.

Scored last season when we played Hull.
