The thing with Kyle is if he starts the game poorly that usually sets the tone for what follows. Bernardo isn't much help defensively on that side. His pace is a huge asset to us though and we're going to need it plenty.

Bernado is no use defensively. He doesn’t challenge at all. Very lightweight.

Eh? No. There was the error on the goal. He also was the one who kept Mee onside for the magical short Ederson had to save. He got beat in the air 2ice and Made 3 brainfart crossfield passes that went to Burnley. Miscontrolled a ball and gave a throw-in.

He was poor all game. Recoverd a few times on the power of his speed. But was poor for most of the game.

His cross to Sterling and a fantastic shot block on a breakaway being his 2 main positive actions.

You are right according to stats, he was our poorest defender today.

But it happens, every player will make mistakes, sometimes it cost us other times it doesn't.

Don't agree with that at all, I think he presses and chases around as well as anyone. Sure he's not going to fly around knocking people over but I think it's very unfair to say he's useless defensively, he puts in a hell of a shift and always covers back

He works his butt off defensively. You can see it's not his thing, but he has taken to the instructions of trying to retrieve the ball back quickly. And he does it admirably.

Can't believe anyone will claim he is no help defensively. That is far far far from the truth.

Wasn't aware, his focus went awry. He's been good so far for us but he cost us two points today. That's a fact.
Walker had an assist (or two) from Sterling.

He fucked up - yes, but he didn't single-handedly cost us the game.

That said, Walker was pretty bad throughout against Burnley - an aberation, as he's been solid defensively this season.

When mee has that shot and ederson made a cracking save it was walker keeping him onside he needs to sharpen up we ain’t spurs. He did put a great cross on a plate for sterling though

Looked lacking in concentration yesterday a few times

Bit harsh. The Ederson save really stemmed from Kompany getting fooled by the bounce of the ball (clear indication of rustiness IMO). And the cross field passes (I counted two not three) are fairly low percentage, high reward balls (example: Sane's goal at Anfield). Dont think you can call those brain farts if they don't come off sometimes. His ball control in the defensive third was pretty good up until then and Burnley hadn't got much down the left. Awful mistake for the goal, but frankly, you gotta cut him some slack since with Danilo having to move to the left, he is playing pretty much every game - human beings these lads are.

Agreed that mistakes will happen at times.

But throughout the game, Walker made mistakes.

He was dribbled past on at least one occasion leading to a very dangerous cross in the first half. Pretty sure he had other lapses - watching the game I thought wtf is up with Walker? (who is almost always rock solid defensively). Would have to rewatch the match to give details though.

He fucked up, lost concentration before the final whistle went. Cost us two points but he is dogged and will sharpen his act up. Mistakes occur sometimes.

Who should we realistically sign instead? I’m pro improvement when possible.
Walker is solid defensively - offers not as much as could be hoped offensively.

On balance, I like Walker - no potentially upgrades spring to mind - but I don't follow world football, so there's bound to be candidates.

Yes he is. He's been phenomenal and one mistake isn't and shouldn't cloud anyone's opinion of him. He's the best in the league by a country mile.
No, he isn't switched on all the time, loses concentration and his pace helps him out. But not against Burnley and the big boys will notice. Crosses to his side, and its a problem. He defo goes walkabout
