Kyle Walker : 2018/19 performances

I’m one of if not the biggest critic of him on here but have to say he played well today.

Thought he was poor again. Played one pass that should have been 50 yards to Sterling and ended up skewed to Aguero that looked like he meant it. Another int he second half he passed to Arsenal and Pep was on his haunches with his head in his hands.

I thought he was so risk averse when going fwd and slowed our play far too often.
Who's going to defend our players now if you're criticising them? :p

Seriously though, it was the kind of performance today that did him well last season. After some shaky performances recently he needs a bit of risk-aversion to get back on track. It was him not being risk-averse and giving it away that got everyone on his back.

By risk averse I mean always opting for a sideways or backward pass, there were a couple of incidents where there was a relatively easy outlet moving the ball quickly out to the wings, but he decided to stop, check and then square or pass backwards

Apart from one short pass where he needlessly game the ball away thought Walker was flawless.

I know what you meant. :)
But getting it wrong so often, maybe he just needed to place his trust in his teammates to do it for him. It's not the way forwards but sometimes you need to take a step back first before you can get ahead.

Would much prefer him being risk averse than seeing him make fuck ups trying to be the player he isn’t.
Was ok today in comparison to his last couple of months but still work to do to get back to his best.

Well done today. Can't abide so called blues who are quick to rip apart any blue at the first opportunity. Well done kyle.

He was shit again.

This is a big issue for us.

I don't get people saying he was better, he simply wasn't tasked with having to dictate play as much.

People are saying he was better than he’s been recently because he was. Regardless of what he was or wasn’t tasked to do.

Thought he was better because he had more angles and options (Otamendi/Fernandinho/de Bruyne/Bernardo) than has been the norm; he normally has three and Bernardo floats from the line more than Sterling. It also helped that Otamendi played with greater urgency than Stones has recently shown, which meant Arsenal had less time to organize and that created more time for Walker. In the second half, he also contributed more as an attacking presence.

After his shocker against Palace which he was quite rightly dropped for a while for. We are starting to see him getting back to his best again. Every player is going to have a dip in form during some part of the season, it's all about managing that and being able to rotate when this happens (if you are able too).

This suggests that it all began with his performance against Palace and since being dropped he is steadily improving. It didn't start with Palace, for the most part, he has been terrible all season. As for the improvement, he was better yesterday but currently that is an anomaly. He hasn't been getting better, his poor form has continued. Hopefully, yesterday is the start of a better period but overall he has been a disaster this season.
