Kyle Walker

I would too.

It's a shame we will be taken for a ride by Levy though.

He will get £50m out of us as he knows we're desperate for fullbacks and Txiki will pay it.
End of the day, it'll be a fantastic addition to our team. I'd say £35,000,000-40 is fair, but we did give Everton £50,000,000 for English potential. Walker is established, and I wouldn't blame Spurs for demanding £50,000,000.

I don't rate Walker too highly but will support him if or when he signs for us.
I'm quite underwhelmed at the prospect of signing Walker. It's got a similar feeling of Shaw going to united. Has a couple of good seasons, gets sold for crazy money and is found out as a bit overrated. If we sign him I can see fans saying a year from now "English players are shit" and "wish we had signed a world class right back" and he'll be added to the yearly list of deadwood players we should sell in the summer. I'm not saying Walker is not a good player I'm just fed up with us settling for good rather than the best.

It is not the greatest of signings. Walker is an experienced player and has been consistent for a couple seasons but there is a rash streak in him and at times he can look like Micah Richards both defensively and offensively. But you have got back the club's judgement.

Walker benched for one of their biggest games of the season.

Its clear that he probably asked to leave. Walker is the best RB in the league but 50m is a lot. Would rather we targeted Serge Aurier who is younger, and much cheaper. Or I would offer Real Madrid 50m for Carvajal who is definitely one of the best, and would present better value for me. But at the end of the day if we sign Walker, I can't really complain too much as he improves us immensely.

Depends as well who our targets are for other positions, it may be we need a homegrown signing to keep us under 17 non homegrown and Walker would be a better option than any homegrown players we could get for any other position we are shopping for.

That is true, I didn't think about that tbh. If that is the case, bring him in :)

I'm fed up with good rather than best too, but I think Walker is in the 'best' bracket. There are two or three right backs that are better, but I doubt any of those are available. If Walker is available then we should sign him, he's a huge upgrade on our current right backs. Good going forward as well.

While I agree that the rumoured 40-50m fee is too much, I think there's considerable difference between Shaw and Walker. Shaw was a 19 year old prospect with perceived potential which could go either way when MU bought him while Walker is 26 and nearing or at his prime and there's little risk in him compared to an 18 or 19 year old prospect who still has to develop over the years to fulfill his perceived potential. And yes he's English.

Unfortunately he'd be overpriced for the obvious reasons.

Definitely something going on here.

Probably the best right back in the league, big upgrade on our current right backs.

It would probably turn out to be a decent signing. It's just when I heard that we were getting the one and only Pep Guardiola I never envisaged Kyle Walker would be a part of his master plan, it's just a bit underwhelming for me for some reason.

40m is fair IMO. He is the best RB in the league, in his prime, just signed a new contract and is also English.
At the end of the day we need an established proven right back who can slot straight in rather than take a year to settle. Best option IMO.

Thing is, how many realistic RB/RWB/RMF targets out there that we would call Pep Guardiola-worthy?

There's Hector Bellerin who's highly celebrated, but aside from his pace what's so special about him? I'll be honest, I don't sit and watch Arsenal week in and week out but from what I've seen, yes he has a lot of speed but his defending seems poor. I get that he's from Barcelona academy and maybe he would suit Pep's system well for that reason, and yes he's 22 years old so maybe he'll learn and develop better. Maybe. He'll be just as expensive though.

Who else is there? Real Madrid's Carvajal is world class but we're definitely not getting him. Pep just said our fullbacks can't go up and down and up and down the entire game because they're all 33 years old or older, so that takes Dani Alves out of the picture, he's 35.

Then there's Monaco's Sidibe. Again, I don't watch Monaco games every week so I can't comment but he'll be just as expensive as Walker and I didn't think he was anything special either, their other fullback (Mendy) seemed better and he's got good assist numbers which says something about his offensive contribution, but again my observation of Monaco's fullbacks are limited. I'll leave this to others who watch them regularly and can make a better comparison.

Then I hear about Benfica's Semedo, but he'll probably be just as expensive, maybe 10-20m less. Is he worth to pick over Walker? Again I don't know, I don't watch Portuguese league so I'll leave it to others who watch Benfica more regularly. (I also have doubts about Ederson after how things turned out with Bravo, and that comes from my ignorance that I don't watch Benfica regularly and haven't seen much of him. What we know is in the Premier League you need a keeper who's also good in the air and can catch a ball but that's for another thread)

I don't know, who else is out there? It seems like several clubs will be shopping for fullbacks this summer and the high quality supply seems limited. There was this talk about Bayer Leverkusen youngster Henrichs, who is a youngster. Is he that good? I don't know. Is he Pep Guardiola worthy? If he is, we should bring him in. I'm sure the club is tracking several players with Pep's guidance so I guess we'll see. I'd like to see good fullbacks for years to come just like everyone else.

Way I look at it proven prem experience knows how games are played so could hit ground running. Also internation experience playing with stones and sterling less risk than an imported player

This is important. Walker is going to be a great signing. What an upgrade on Sagna/Zaba.
