Kylian Mbappé | Real Madrid Player (pg620)

Why do people believe the Saudis would pay him €700m?

And this whole it is just for one year claim. So they'd pay supposedly €300m to buy him off PSG, pay him €700m, and in a year watch him on the tv at Real Madrid with nothing to show for a 1bn investment? Aye ok.

It's bizarre that anyone would think it's remotely plausible..I would like to be a fly on the wall of the negotiations between the two clubs though...

I’d do a different job that pays a higher salary. And so would everyone else so they would have to put the pay up.

In all seriousness. We are talking about an industry that pays obscene salaries. It would be a fifa directive worldwide not government.
I know it’s not an easy thing to do but I believe something has to be done. Even before the Saudi game changer.

Iv said before, I think the Saudi league will only go so far due to their culture.

However, if you can earn the same amount for 1 season in Saudi than you can for 10 in the prem. we have to be prepared to succumb to greedy agents who will advise their clients to do the year or two in Saudi
So some are more equal than others?

Is it ok for Elton John to earn an 'obscene' salary? What about Tom Cruise?

I'd have a problem if UK taxpayer money was being used to feather the nest of a politician etc, but when it's private companies, I couldn't care less what a footballer, singer, actor or banker earns. If you don't like it, you don't contribute by watching them or banking there and if enough people feel like that, their earnings will fall.

Trying to put caps on things is protectionism for the status quo, basically a new form of FFP.

If the Saudis have a good business model, it'll work out. If not, their clubs will fail or they keep throwing billions at it for no apparent reason. I don't think they're fools, so they won't do the latter, but, like us, they are working on traditional business models and timescales that football isn't used to with its demands for success or managers sacked within months.

I honestly dont know what this gets them? It will be big news for a week then done. None of their stuff is on tv. No one wants to watch it. Theyre just dumping 1billion down the shitter.

Is he meant to be a loss leader? Bring in more high profile players? Dont really see it if hes only going for a boat load of cash for 1 year. If anything, i think it delegitimizes their league.

They aren't going to be spending 1 billion on this deal as the info is clearly made up..

Their business model is pump in money on top of money regardless of loss to legitimize business dealings in the kingdom. It is the literal definition of sportwashing. They know they need to diversify from oil and are willing to lose an awful lot of cash doing it for the long term goal.

Have sky signed a deal with the Saudi league yet?
They must surely get a decent tv deal soon because people will want to watch it - I wouldn't but some will especially the mbappe and ronaldo fan boys

They probably have dozens of super yachts worth tens or hundreds of millions sitting in docks all over the place hardly being used.

They are paying Tyson Fury 50 million quid for 30 minutes work to have a dance around with Francis Ngannou.

Joshua v Wilder is gonna be around £100m split down the middle for one night. Fury v Usyk is apparently as good as signed behind the scenes now for March next year, that's gonna be over £100m in purses..

So it's not inconceivable they would be willing to spend that on Mpabbe to be there for a year is it? When you consider the money they put up for one night of boxing. It's not about a quick return on an investment for them, the money they make in these boxing events in terms of selling broadcasting rights and tickets is only a fraction compared to the money they put up..

Hundreds of millions in Saudi is really nothing to them

They are seriously developing holiday resorts to attract tourists from throughout the world. I have a client who is a project manager who is currently working on developing a resort the size of which he said you cannot comprehend.
