He was class tonight tbf even with his missed chances. Has an intelligence and awareness of space beyond his years and barring a very bad run of form or injury should go on to be a top player. With that said some of these comments are a bit OTT. I honestly thought dembele played better and looked the more technical and intelligent player on the ball and when playing against a team with stones and jones at the center of defense with dier and chamberlain shielding them. Most decent players would have a field day against them.

I know I'm in a minority but I just don't see him as this 'once in a generation' buy-at-all-costs player that many believe him to be. These kind of labels are for very special players whose intelligence and technical ability are at world class level and there's currently no young player u21 I can think that of in that bracket and I even include jesus and sane whom I rate very highly. Will these go on to be top, world class players, most likely but players of the ilk of iniesta, ronaldo, messi, come round once every 5 or so years and only neymar is currently close to being considered in that bracket. In fact the only young player I thought that of the past 5 years was gotze at dortmund and at a push isco when he was at malaga. I thought they both had the ability to not only be world class but all time greats maybe even surpassing the likes of xavi and iniesta.

He already is top class. He rips apart any defence he comes across. I still think we need to buy wisely and buy players in positions that are needed, but this boy is good. I'd take mbappe over sanchez.

Never once did mbappe look unsure of his plays...as good as dembers is, he had moments of hesitation as you'd expect from a player that age.

Different class.

He was very good tonight.

He's still erratic in front of goal and quite raw. Athletically he is excellent.

I think people are carried away by his age though. He is very young, but his age doesn't mean that he will continue to improve at the rate he appears to have burst on to the scene at.

He does have the stride, turn of pace and physicality to leave players for dead and it's that coupled with his technical confidence that makes him stand out. However, these characteristics aren't exclusive to him.

I think he will stay at Monaco anyway and probably move to Real next year. Chances are they'll get bored of him if he doesn't instantly do the business for them tbh.

When you see what was paid for Martial it's probably not as outrageous... Just what United did - buy him for a massively inflated fee because you think he's going to be worth it and to stop anyone else getting him. Obviously when you gamble there's always a risk it doesn't pay off (as they found out).
Martial still does have tremendous potential. He actually shares a lot of similarities with Mbappe but is playing under a manager who doesn't trust youth and won't allow for any technical freedom so he's just not developing....not in the areas where Mourinho wants him to develop anyway.

Outside of Juventus and PSG where he got 1 goal in 3 games. What top class defence has he come against. He played and scored against a city team with stones and otamendi (team's worst defensive pairing) at the back and a dortmund defence with players you'd struggle to name besides that all his other goals has been against ligue 1 teams. He's very talented and I've noted that in almost every post I've made about him, but there's a difference between that talent translating into consistent performances over several seasons. I hesitate to go over the board about any young player regardless of how talented they look off the back off 1 good season especially if its their breakthrough one as I've seen far too many times how quickly things can change in their second seasons once teams are more aware of their strengths and what moves and play they tend to favor and make thus make adjustments for. I was like that with kane and alli a couple of seasons ago and Martial 2 seasons ago where he was the one getting the same kind of appraise from the media and fans that Mbappe is getting now. I happen to consider top class players those who've done it at a consistent level for several seasons against top class opposition hence why I listed gotze as the only young player probably of the last decade who could genuinely be labelled top class and a 'once in a generation' talent when he was just 19.
