La Liga | 2024/25

No, I’m not kidding. I’ve seen him play over the years and I haven’t been impressed. Just as I see it.
Well I've seen over the years too and he's one of the hardest working players in Football from what I've seen.

Sad to hear about Le Normand, cracking young player hope he can make a full recovery. The clash of heads looked bad at weekend but as the game ended straight after I didn't realise it was this bad. Atletico reporting he has suffered a traumatic brain injury. :(

I just saw that.

Absolutely horrific if accurate. Likely a long road to recovery but I hope he is able to achieve that, even if he may not be able to play football in the future.

There is plenty of evidence that concussions (and thousands of micro-concussions) that footballers (especially defenders) experience over their careers have a significant impact on long term health outcomes.

This is one of the worst types of head injuries, but less acute injuries accumulate and cause significant harm, as well.

It is why I support the banning of headers through U14 level—we really don’t need kids, who have little-to-no agency, experiencing concussions and/or micro-concussions as their brain is in early development, especially given the vast majority of them will never play professional football, so the risk-reward calculation is wildly skewed to risk.

Id make all U13 football indoor futsal. They get fuckall out of playing on sodden pitches in the Winter anyway. Just devolves into lump it into the big lad who's hit puberty early.

I do feel like you can't really compare the modern footballs to the ones Jeff Astle was heading though, which is one point I never see raised and I do think kids should be learning how to head a ball with proper technique as it's a big part of the game.

The concussion rules are a good start, not sure how much further you can go, maybe a brain scan as part of the health check up that can find issues similar to the heart tests players do nowadays. Not sure how accurate that can be, I am not a Doctor but I was under the impression they can only find signs of CTE when they do an autopsy.

Anyway rambled a bit there, wish Le Normand a full recovery, apparently he has a subdural haematoma, basically a bleed on the brain. Sure he will be getting great care at least.
