Labour / Tory Party meltdown Referendum fallout

With Heidi Alexander resigning from the shadow cabinet this morning, coupled with the sacking of Hillary Benn and a few other labour MPs voicing their concerns on Twitter, it looks like Corbyn is on very thin ice. Rumours that up to half the shadow cabinet could resign this week. If that happens, it's be nearly impossible for him to stay on, wouldn't it?

*edit* Now they're talking about the next couple of hours on Sky News, not next week.

Proper fucked like the hare

They have been sitting around waiting for an reason to oust jezza, but this was the wrong time.
The tories are a mess and the country unsure of the future, any self respecting menber of the PLP should have seen this as an opportunity to contribute the reshape and rebuild of our country, not start arsing about with petty in fighting.
Jeremy alway needed to go before an election I expect, but the way he wanted to shape the party into a more social just, fairer party will mean someone with the same ideals would only be elected in a leadership contest, as the membership want that on the whole.
I fear that this is the death of my Party and I won't be blaming corbyn for it, he has been fighting against a tide since day one and he has faults but the progress wing who have not adapted to the changing politics of today are destroying labour, it's not like it was in 97 anymore and they have to realise that politics has shifted.
If a leadership election is called I hope Clive Lewis puts himself forward

He wont survive this. The key issue is can labour install a leader that the whole movement can rally behind and also take an increasingly divided nation with?

Whoever the leader is and agree they desperately need one, Scotland is the key to them winning any election, and personally I can't see any signs of them making inroads up against the SNP at the moment. In fact of all the Scottish opposition leaders Ruth Davidson is the only on making any impact and is actually improving the tories position in Scotland. Labour just don't seem to have very many talented people.
But it has to be somebody forward thinking maybe there is a younger Unknown figure with some vision. Despite what labour supporters would like they would have to come from the Blair / David Milliband side.

So, Labour MPs turning on their leader who actually didn't want to remain in the EU - he's probably more in touch with the British public than any other leader. Ok, let's get rid then.

Just goes to show that the Remain campaign are still bitter. It's fucking ridiculous.

All MP"s are just like the Scorpion and the Frog they just can"t stop themselves

Massive opportunity - in the short term for labour IF they can find the right leader. The Tories are going to move even further to the right with a Brexit cabinet - few Remainers are going to want to serve in a post Cameron / Osbourne cabinet. The centre ground of British politics is wide open for the Labour Party to occupy IF they get the right person installed. The Tories can partly head this off if they elect Teresa May but if they go for a Johnson /Gove combination then they are putting themselves out to the right and the next few years will be pretty tough negotiating with Europe and managing a very uncertain policical and economic environment.

think it's exactly the right time for labour. Rip the bandaid off now and start a new era, everything is up in the air anyway.

Are you saying Corbyn wamted to leave but lied and told people to vote remain?

The referendum proved that Corbyn is indeed about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. To make matters worse he played politics rather than delivering leadership.

Not a chance of me voting Labour with him at the helm.

Correct me if I'm wrong but how is getting rid of party members from the shadow cabinet that don't agree with Labour principles a 'meltdown' ? Good fucking riddance.

It would have all been much easier had Corbyn passionately campaigned to leave the EU, which I suspect he voted to do in private. Leave might then have got the larger majority that Remain voters are demanding it get in hindsight.

Corbyn is no leader and never should have been elected in the first place but you are right.

Again, the PLP is ignoring the electorate and its core support heartlands and seemingly is unable to learn from mistakes.

Labour MP's living on the South bank may well have wanted to remain in the EU however their constituents in many of the poorer ares of the UK did not and they need to remember who voted them in and that's its their jobs to represent them.

Its this failure from all the main parties that is leading to a rise in the far left and right.
