Saying that if they win the General Election they will raise the minimum wage to £8 an hour. Fair play to Millibland, this is a vote winner.

He's on the Andrew Marr show right now.

Edit: said the following:

1. They will raise the higher tax bracket to 50%.
2. Wouldn't be dragged into the English MPs voting on English issues.
3. NHS would be protected, everyone would be able to see their GP within 48 hours.

Handled himself quite well, but still sounds like he needs to blow his nose.

£8 hr is unsustainable for a lot of businesses and will see many low waged jobs disappearing

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise

This does need doing with the way cost of living is always on the rise,£6.31 is a bit of a joke !

Wasn't the same said when the minimum wage was introduced?

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise

Good news for the low paid, but would rather he committed to the living wage,, the myth about job losses is bollocks but could see where it might lead to more part time jobs than full time so employer can get away with less workers rights.,
If we get also the renationalisation of the railways, reigning in the energy companies and getting rid of Ed Balls and the man may be onto a winner

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise

Will the folk getting £8.50 an hour now see their wage rise proportionally to nearer 10 at the same time ?

I very much doubt that tbh

No the cost of product or service to the end user will just increase to pay the higher wages

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise

So having pursued 14 years of house price inflation through an excess of credit and money printing, Labour are now saying "look, nobody can afford to live here any more! Let's increase inflation then borrow and print more money for people to pay their rents/ mortgages with,"

"Oh and by the way, let's sign up to an overarching global free trade deal because obviously increasing our costs in the UK relative to the rest of the world won't have any effect on our international competitiveness."

Stupid, thick twats are never happy unless they're destroying the economy.
