Will the folk getting £8.50 an hour now see their wage rise proportionally to nearer 10 at the same time ?

I very much doubt that tbh

I pay a lot of my staff that sort of money, they will be quite upset to find out that that's nearly the minimum wage and therefore any unskilled Jonny who turns up will be the same dosh as them.

That's my thoughts. I'm sure not all the fast food outlets/takeaways on Stockport Road, and the restaurants on the curry mile, are paying the minimum wage!

I don't have a problem with the minimum wage, I think it is a good idea but as long as government and society tolerate the huge black economy in this country it will not have the desired effect (or not as much as people hope)

The carers we use for my mum charge £7 for a half hour visit. The girls get paid minimum wage and have to pay their own travel costs to get to each call no doubt the company providing the service will have to increase their charges just to keep going. They are a non-profit organisation

Re: Labour's Minimum Wage Promise/Millibland on Andrew Marr

On return to work on Monday I will have to take an apprentice under my wing and teach him .
£8 an hour seems a lot to pay some inexperienced 17 year old kid to watch , listen , carry and basically pass me tools for 4 years .
My gaffer could raise my rate by £4 an hour . I would work 2 hours more each day and Saturdays if he did and I'd probably get more done .
