Lack of Injuries

It definitely isn't luck. Mancini and his staff are doing something right because we have had a relatively clean bill of health for the entire 2 years he has been here. Whereas Arsenal and United always top the Physio Room table....despite rotating as much if not more than us.

We've had a relatively clean bill of health this year, but last year there were quite a few injuries. So much so, that Raymond Verheijen who was the previous fitness coach under Hughes publicly blamed Mancini and his staff for the injury problem. Mind you, since then the club let go Jamie Murphy and things have appeared to improve under his new staff.

Added to the fact we have a relatively young squad. 23/24 year olds are less likely to get injured than 29 year olds.

That was sour grapes, and I said so at the time because we hardly had any injuries when he made the comments. I distinctly remember our injury situation improving dramatically once all of Hughes' people left the club and Mancini got in who he wanted.

He inherited an injury situation - particularly in defence. And there was a period in January when AJ and Milner were out for a month or so...and Balo with the knee thing but that was really it. Even Lescott, perennially injured under Hughes has been perfect for ages now.

Still quite a few of the so called Hughes lot involved in the fitness/sports science stuff.

I remember reading a piece after the Community Shield that was about how our pre-season was all about building the players up in a way that would benefit them as the season went on; the scum had been brought up to speed much quicker due to their tough start to the season, hence they had better fitness levels than us in the CS however they have suffered more injuries as a consequence.

Maybe Hargreaves was right about Dr. Shipman and his Merry Men aka the United medical team, they have had loads of injuries and rotate a lot too.

You're dead right there. Couldnt believe the criticisms I read on here about our supposed fitness levels in the week after the CS.

Definitely to do with proper rotation and use of squad and some luck, as well as the players being good pro's and looking after themselves.

But we do have an excellent and extensive medical/sport science/strength and conditioning department. In the summer (between end of last season and pre-season) City advertised jobs for practically all positions, club doctor, physio, head of sport science, strength and conditioning coaches for 1st team, head of academy sport science, 2 x academy strength and conditioning coaches on British Association of Sport & Exercise Science website. From the looks of it some people kept there jobs (maybe had to reapply for them?) but plenty of ppl have been bought in (the new doc? and sam erith for sport science?).

Just look at the clubs that are consistently (season on season or throughout a season) picking up injuries and niggles - its obvious who's doing a good or bad job.
