One of the true godfathers of Motown, a legendary writer and producer.
Yes he wrote it ! Not as much coverage of Lamonts death compared to onj yet surely he was a far more important figure in the music world ? Quelle surprise !I think he recorded the original version of going back to my roots, either way, a true great.

Great post pal.He was part of the brilliant Holland -Dozier-Holland song writing team who were geniuses. You could probably make a good case they were, outside Lennon and McCartney, the best songwriting team of the 60s. It always astonishes me how people who can't read or write music can write something so brilliant.
So many classic Motown songs were penned by them. It's hard to imagine the 60s without that iconic sound.
RIP and thanks for the music.
Ha yes I was around in the Grease era and remember how big it was even though I thought it was bloody awful to be honest. Agree that ONJ achieved fame that reached the ( white) masses but in terms of overall contribution to the industry Lamont will be remembered by the music world as one of the greats. It would have been nice had the bbc for example, at least give us a little tribute, or even make the front page of their site !You have to have lived in the days of Grease to understand just how big ONJ was and is. I didn't know who this fella was and I am a Motown fan.
thats like saying you are a city fan and have never heard of Colin Bell !You have to have lived in the days of Grease to understand just how big ONJ was and is. I didn't know who this fella was and I am a Motown fan.
