Largest Away Following

Still surprised having looked through the thread, i appear to be the only one mentioning the infamous Good bad Friday game Oldham 1984, complete ground take over, enormous following that day.
Managed to visit every stand during the game - had to use a ladder to get in one top tier - no police allowed to use the ladder though

Great day - couple of us walked (sometimes chased) all the way back to Failsworth then on to Daisy Nook Fair.... for more Good Friday Fun

The joys of being a teenager......

I was there in the big open end. Credit to the Chaddy who stood firm to be honest.
Pretty sure there was a mob of around 300 - 400 City who stood right behind the goals in the Chaddy End with nobody going near them.

That was a huge following including the open ended hill that passed as one side for away fans. The chaddy end was infiltrated with ease that day, no idea what the attendance was but it was a good following

Biggest following I remember was Palace Away May 1990 although this might be something to do with the fact that by the time our minibus pulled up outside Selhurst Park at about 3.15pm I was already seeing double.

I was there.
It was a great day. The hot weather certainly had an effect in me that day.

Or was it the 10 pints of strong lager.

Even the now ups were pissed-;)

Just looking at a couple of programmes where the away attendance is stated.

Obviously some limited by ticket availability but in 2010 we had 8944 officially at the swamp for the league cup semi, 7448 for the opening game of the season in Aug 09 against Blackburn Our lowest following that season was the 1454 at Chelsea although from memory for some reason I think we only took one tier and sold it out. The lowest at our place was Fulham in the early round of the league cup. They brought 171! The next lowest Fulham again in the league with 595, Wigan with 601 and Portsmouth with 701. Arsenal brought the most in the league cup - 4787.

Going back to 2002/03 under Keegan when of course we actually had no fans, we took 7034 to Blackburn. 4157 to Wigan on a Tuesday night. 3757 to Villa on a Wed night, 3176 to Southampton, 3074 to Fulham, 2850 to Boro, 2893 to West Ham, 3557 to Leeds. We even took 2317 to Spurs on a Friday night.

“Where we’re you when you were shit?” Erm….at your ground!

Our lowest was 1348 at Sunderland on a sky game Monday night!

Lowest at ours were Fulham 503 and Charlton 767.

If you are talking league games only and not Wembley finals / semi finals and other cup games then I would go with Notts County in 1985, Stoke on Boxing Day 1988, Oldham, the infamous ladders game and Blackburn in 2000. The first three mentioned we must have had in excess of 12,000 at each, Blackburn is slightly harder as there were so many everywhere but probably around 10k. There were also some derbies where we had 10k when we would have all the scoreboard end plus some of the united road and seats and these would be legit tickets. Then there would be plenty of others around the place. Also what about the game at Newcastle when we won the league, before my time but heard stories of 15k+
We had the full end behind the open end goal, most of the side opposite the main stand and a block in the main stand no idea how many travelled up but it seemed more city fans than newcastle that day.
