There was only a few Gornik fans because Poland was behind the iron curtain at the time. There was only a few Gornik fans there that night, seemed to be all City fans from what I remember.
Took a week for us to drive there and back. Sweet memories!
If Wembley counts there will be multiple matches.. for a start we probably had > 40k v GillinghamIf Wembley counts then it’ll be Wigan in the 2013 FA Cup final surely.
We had 60,000+ didn’t we?
If not then Newcastle 1968.
That Wigan game should trump all tho I think. If Wembley counts there will be multiple matches.. for a start we probably had > 40k v Gillingham
And what a shite day it was! That Wigan game should trump all tho I think.
We had 3 sides of Wembley.
The Witton End was all City -I can say this for absolutely certain tho it was meant to be neutral. We did
Had a great day (game apart obviously!)There were a lot Blues there that day.
The double decker bus journey back to the station afterwards was eventful.Yep . We got penned in and they had the whole embankment to throw rocks, tree stumps etc… after the game.
We got at the ground close to kick off time and a group of older Stoke fans trying to ambush our coach, we had a coach full of nutters and ran them off .
One of our mates was in their main stand and got kicked out 3 times and somehow got back in again each time and another of our mates ran from that same stand and into our section with the help of the police. He was on the front page of the MEN the next day getting rough treatment from the police .
It was the most hostile game I’ve been to
What Wigan game? And what a shite day it was!
That was one that immediately came to mind for me. I was stood in the main stand paddock, but the open terrace behind the goal to my left (as it then was) was full of City fans. The 2-0 win at Stoke in 76-77 deserves a mention, especially as the attendance was 15,000 higher than their next home game.
