Last day!

Congratulations and thank you for serving your community.

Running into danger when others are running out takes a special person.

From the comments on here, you’re definitely “special!”

;-)

Enjoy the Campervan!

Ha ha ye I know Dixie, I was in same station as him, good window fitter ;)

He was a decent footballer too, played at Chadderton FC in same team as David Platt and John Pemberton. Dario wanted him to sign for crew with the other two at the time, but he had started an apprenticeship so turned him down. He played for Stalybridge Celtic as well.

He stayed mates with Pemby. And he would sometimes come in our local with Dixie. He was playing for Sheffield Utd at the time, who we were playing that coming weekend. Being a rag, he said to my old man 'Eddie, I am determined to score against your lot, and when I do the goal will be dedicated to you'.

True to his word he scored a cracking headed goal .... in his own net to equalise for us though ;-) Didn't see him for quite a while after. :-)

Yep so I’m told about his footballing, he’s still stewarding but like I said since my back injury I’ve not been able to do it.

Well done to you sir and as others have said; enjoy your well-deserved retirement. Hoping to do the same over here within 5 years. Well depending on those massive college bills for my kids...;)

Well it seems to have taken ages but has come up quick, today I retire from the fire service 20 years 9 months, 35 years in public service in total! The last 6 months are not how I wanted to finish but there was sod all I could do about my bloody back, I’m gutted not to have had that one last good shout. It’s been an honour to have served the people of Manchester and I’ve made friends for life in the job they really are like a second family. Thankfully with the way everything’s going in the country I’m going at just the right time, I will be mortgage free and have some savings behind me and the family now. Hope to get a camper van and get out and see some of the U.K. and Europe following City as much as possible now, the mad dog we got will keep me fit. If you can do it finish as early as you can you never know what’s round the corner.
Nice one, welcome to the Club, it’s the best one I’ve ever joined.

Enjoy your retirement
And thanks for your service.
