Last Film You Saw

Monster (2023 - Japan), not so much coming of age as a coming of childhood drama done through different perspectives scenarios, brilliant movie whether you'll see it as a happy or sad ending.

The taste of things (2023 - France), 'haute cuisine' drama, is there any move genre Juliete Binoche is in that she cannot just prove over and over again to be the best actress of her generation. Excellent movie, but not for connoisseurs of bacon sarnie with sliced white or burrito wrap worked on by 4-5 students in a line at your local Mexican takeaway.

The Animal Kingdom (2023 - France), a very, very interesting sci-fi, similar to Monster above, the plot as an allegory of the society it is set in.

" One night in Millstreet" at the cinema today....
I went to a London screening of this 2 weeks ago. I know some of "Doctor Tony Quinn"'s followers -- one features in the film, flopping about on the floor having been zapped by Quinn's "energy". He really believes this stuff and has done since 2002.

The film has largely been ignored in the UK (although the Guardian did review the film and linked to an article that reveals more about Quinn: https://www.theguardian.com/film/20...reet-review-steve-collins-chris-eubank-rumble)

Quinn, who features in the film and receives 4th-billing on the movie poster, was exposed by the News Of The World in 1978 for claiming to be able to cure Cancer in London. https://educocult.com/press/cancer_cure_blarney_of_the_irish_yoga_teacher-pq2930.shtml )

The BBC exposed Quinn as a Cult leader in 2012:

This last week has seen the Press in Ireland go-to-town on this movie and Quinn's appearance in it. Only the Irish Independent and Cork Echo have addressed Quinn's Cult-leader status.

Finally, a front-group for Quinn's "EDUCO" Cult has recruited in a Manchester hotel as recently as 2019: https://educocult.com/articles/the_british_mindfulness_academy_is_not_really-t58xfm.shtml

Rumours that the current Cult-story in Coronation Street is inspired by Quinn's cult-activities in Manchester have not yet been confirmed...... watch this space!

I should add this for the benefit of anyone who was involved with Quinn/EDUCO: https://dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2023/07/06/educo-documentary-maker-would-like-to-speak-to-you/

I remember he started off , claiming he could get people to stop smoking.
Didn't realise he was as " notorious" as per your post.

Knox Goes Away

A good watch this in so many ways the diagnoses the storyline and how his Dementia effects it.. 8/10

"When a contract killer is diagnosed with a fast-moving form of dementia, he is presented with the opportunity to redeem himself by saving the life of his estranged adult son. To do this, he must race against the police closing in on him, as well as the ticking clock of his own rapidly-deteriorating mind."

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) - 7/10
Quite unique the way it's filmed, you think you're following one story and then it's flipped on it's head. Just needed a tough more substance to be great.

Quigley Down Under (1990) - 6/10
Tom Selleck on a one man mission up against Alan Rickman and his crew, after being hired as a hitman to take out any aborigines that desert him.

Gonjiam - Haunted Asylum

It was supposed to be one of the scariest found footage films ever made, some good scenes, but the 'possesed' lickity lip thing they do is down right hilarious and not scary in the slightest.

Incredibly disappointing, 5/10

I loved Eubank, quality entertainment.
Brilliant fighter. I was in the Benn camp and thought Eubank was a twat but after their fights, had nothing but admiration for him as a boxer. The Michael Watson fight was the end for him though competitively. So many times after, and in the Collins fight, he had worked the opening and didn't go in for the kill. He always held something back.
Superb fighter though.
