Last Film You Saw

Warfare - Brutal and well worth your time 8/10

Jaws The Revenge - Why do I do this to myself...utter shite (I was already aware of this fact) 1/10 just for the music score.

The Railway Man, Colin Firth portrays an ex POW who was captured by the japanese and put to work on the railway line in Burma/Thailand. Gives a good insight into the mental damage done to many hundreds/thousands by the brutal treatment they received.

Always think the Japanese seem to have got away lightly from WW2, they were worse than the Germans in many ways particularly their treatment of POWs, I went to the Bridge on the River Kwai in Thailand and the museum there is haunting.

I read the book -The Rape of Nanking. What the Japanese did there was barbaric.

Apologies for bringing a book into the film thread.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

The Hiroshima museum is horrific, and I think all schoolchildren are required to visit it. When I was there, many were much younger than would be taken somewhere like that in the UK.

The site is very peaceful.

There isn't as much at Nagasaki - a memorial at the site of the detonation, and a smaller museum. I don't have any recollection of going into the museum, so it may have been closed or me not having enough time.

My Grandad fought the Japs in Burma and he despised them, not so much the Germans though because he didn't have a bad time with them personally. His Grandad probably hated the French because Napoleon was a ****.

Time heals most things but what happened in Nanking will never be erased it was horrific. I don't know how the German people kept sane with the barbaric treatment of people they murdered and displaced and the effect the Russians and Allies raping their women had on their national psyche.

War is shit.

I watched a film last night called 'The Best Offer'. Its about an older guy auctioneer (Geoffrey Rush) who has spent his life alone who finally falls for someone, it was turning out to be a really good film, but it took an unexpected turn and I ended up hating it!

It's a brilliant film. Realistic, and in the end, manages to show mankind to be as forgiving as sometimes brutal.
I must admit I shed a tear or two, I'm not sure I could have done what he did, especially as what happened with his personal life.
A film that makes you think, reflect and evaluate.
If you haven't seen it, I'd definitely recommend.

Superman (the new one).
He’s a nice enough fella, but has more charisma when he’s Clarke Kent. Not the guy for me. In fact there’s little special about him at all really - he feels like one of us off here in a rubber muscle suit. With a shit wig when he’s Supes. (The rock star wigs you get from joke shops - wayy too bushy around the sides and temples.)

Add to it a complete lack of character or world building, and the whole first half just seems ridiculous and random.
No feeling at any point of of awesome power, no hope or sense of satisfaction of it returning at the volta.
And a stupid annoying dog…

Was random as shit in story and tone, like I’d directed it.

Daughters loved it (their first superhero movie). Says it all.

Nicolas Hoult’s Lex Luther was enjoyably cuntish though - a trump with some idea…

The Cleaner. Daisy Ridley as a female John McLean. Seriously? Bruce Willis was bad enough. Yippee Ki Yay indeed.

1.5/10. And that's because I'm a bloody nice guy, and feeling benevolent. Her grandad would have made a better action hero!
Aiming for the female Jason Statham market perhaps?

What’s next - the Dinner Lady?
The Sloane Ranger?
The Lady Who Lunches?

Though I must admit to enjoying his formulaic pap…
