You can't beat proper mate, my mum's were proper homemade puds with proper chips. I told her I'd make a better S&k pud once, I failed miserably and I'm a decent cook when I put my mind to it.

Bring on the executioner... After I've had my old mums pudding chips and mashed buttered carrots laced with white pepper.

Proper old fashioned home cooked is sadly becoming bad thing of the past nowadays.... She used to do braised shoulder steak in chopped onions dumplings and carrots in a simple Oxo cube gravy. Better than any fillet steak, no contest.
