With the planned expansion of the Etihad to accommodate crowds of over 60,000 now beginning to happen,it got me thinking about when was the last time that there was a 60,000+ crowd at Maine Road.
The last one I can remember was the 1971 Derby game against United (3-3 draw)when the attendance was over 63,000(and I was one of those present). It was the only season when the North Stand was standing only, and thus 2 sides of Maine Road was for standing spectators. And this gave a much larger capacity at Maine Road for 1 season only.
Was this the last time such a large crowd attended a City home game or have there been any others since then??

Must have been in the 1970s against either Man United or Liverpool .
3-3 at Maine Road in early 70s was 63k I think.

Look in the history section pal
