Last whites of the east end

A bigger number of bigoted, thick, hypocritical and racist bastards it would be hard to find.

Please please please can we have more immigration into this area and the rest of the country.

Filth.

You've not been to Leicester, Bradford, Luton, Leeds, Liverpool etc recently then. And you think multi culturalism has added something to this country? From what I have seen Asians keep themselves to themselves. I could count on one hand the amount of Asians I see at classis music concerts, Shakespeare plays, ballets, opera or anything that requires a bit of British historical knowledge to appreciate it. How many do you see around Lodon's art galleries? I've seen more Japanese than Indians at those cultural events. I'm more than willing to support Asian musical and dance events but they just don't stray out of their ghetto areas. Milapfest (the only Asian music and dance company advertising on the internet) just don't tour the country and base all their events around Liverpool and Manchester. Even the cinema is poorly supported by Asians in my experience with films like Slum Dog or Marigold Hotel not getting their attention. Is it all down to being tight fisted or not being able to afford such 'luxuries?' I don't know the answer to that.
If I visit Spain or Italy I make an effort to experience their art and traditional music and dance because it's edifying. I don't go there and seek out English folk music. Asians in general need to open up to British culture. In Leicester they even have their own TV and radio stations FFS!

What? You could probably count on the other hand number of white working class people you see at those events too.

I'm all for freedom of speech but... Daily Mail readers should come with a bloody warning!

It's ok to be worried about the loss of true English culture they wouldn't call that racist anywhere else because it's not! Diversity is good but when you get whole towns(unless it's just one on it's own thats sanctioned like a China Town etc) taken over by one set of people especially by a none native speaking one that makes zero effort to learn our culture or value it then that's not what it is at all. In other places in the world this is a strict requirement(they simply wouldn't tolerate half the stuff we do), we seem to have too many wussies that want to pipe up and call people racists because they are miserable and hiding behind their PC badge makes them feel powerful to their peers. The fact is this is happening in lots of places in the country and it's ok to be saddened by it, how to deal with it or stopping it happen is another matter.

Why try and bring class into it? This is an ethnic issue not a class one. And how do you go about recognising class at a public event anyway? At least at the cultural events I've described being Asian or Japanese or African is pretty obvious.

I watched the programme and didn't think it was racist. It showed the contradictions in some of the views of those interviewed but I was left with a feeling of sadness at the end of it. The numbers of non-British people in the area is the problem not that fact that they are non-British IMO. Britain, London and the East End have accommodated immigrants for hundreds of years but never on a scale of the last 10 years.

I was left thinking to myself 'would I want to stay in the area' and to be quite honest I don't think I would.

I felt really sorry for the guy who said his white mates had all fucked off ...they would vouch that he was more British than them and that now he was looked upon as a Muslim extremist.............sad world

I think that there have always been "pockets" of cities that are home to the immigrants of the day - Irish, Jewish, Ugandan Asian, Indian, Pakistani the list goes on - these are chiefly because they were traditionally the cheap dare I say slum areas of habitation. Oddly whilst that"drove" the previous occupants out subsequently the incomers became more affluent are were off themselves.

Its only been more personal wealth and the gentrification of some poorer areas in some cities that has begun to reverse that trend. Probably the result of our odd housing market and supply over demand that though.

As for the Costa del Sol Brits - when we vote out and they are all sent home they will be fine in Clacton

Good post, the reaction to that programme last night was a tad over the top. If where I lived became Asian/Eastern Europe majority populated over British, I'd be a bit saddened that the British culture had been phased out. We have different beliefs and ways of living to some countries, mainly Asians ones of that. It just doesn't work unless they learn how to learn our culture, which won't happen and to me that's sort of understandable. That then leads to British people moving out areas they've grown up in to accommodate more foreigners. Like you say, how to deal with it is anyone's guess. No doubt I'll be labelled as racist now.

[QUOTE="hilts,It was inevitable really.

It's only inevitable if you allow it to happen. Is there an Ex Pat ghetto in China, Russia, South America, and most other countries in the world? Even in the ones where we had them we were kicked out eventually.[/QUOTE]
In short, yes there are. Go to any foreign city with a sizeable British expat community and you'll find them living in the same areas and socialising together. It's human nature to seek out what you're most familiar with, and it happens the world over with all nationalities. There will be individuals who buck the trend and fully assimilate themselves, but they're the exceptions to the rule in my experience. Ultimately, it's up to the host country to decide whether this is a problem or not.
