Why was his goal embarrassing ?
Surely it was a true poachers goal . If he did that for City against the rags in the 90th minute of an FA cup final , you would be singing his name for years to come .
He looks different , but the guy is a class player and his stats for both club and country prove that .
Why did Liverpool get rid then? And when they made him available only Portsmouth came in.
The goals he's scored for England have generally been against poorer opposition and some teams have barely been Premiership standard (incl. Andorra).

Liverpool didn't get rid of him they offered him a new contract, He went to pompey because of Harry redknapp and to play every week.
And on the england thing, what about his goal against croatia at wembley which would have made england qualify for the euro's, if it wasn't for the goalie mistake at the other end
