:) He's not been very good this Tour. Based on the 2017 Tour and his performances in 2018, including his ride in Strade Bianche, I was expecting more.
He's been excellent. His team haven't. He's trying to beat a Sky team with 4 men. Like taking a stick to a gun-fight. No chance.

Exactly - no team comes close to Sky. Sky are the one team who gear their whole year towards the Grand Tour & mainly Le Tour. It’s no wonder G & Froomey are 1-2.

Dumoulin’s been very good so far and obviously is expected to gain time on the TT. IMO G will tire this week and Froomey will put some time into him and possibly gain the yellow jersey in the Pyrenees, very interesting week ahead though!

It can be difficult separating the team from the individual. Granted, AG2R have fallen apart from the seams. But he has been delivered into the right place a couple of but he did not look string at time. For example, yesterday's stage.

Sky are like a juggernaut. Stand in its way and you generally get flattened. Think your analysis could very well pan out. Yates looked nailed on for the Giro until that 3rd week when the legs just said "no" and Froome stepped up. G has won some seriously important stage races, but never been in with a shout of a Grand Tour. That 3rd week separates the wheat from the chaff. Not sure Dumoulin will make such big gains in the TT; he'll have a lot of miles in those legs. What will be very interesting is if Froome goes on the attack in the Pyrenees and G takes off after him.
By the way, distinctly unimpressed with Wiggins yesterday. Ducked all the serious questions.

True, but I do think he's possibly looked at that Sky train and realised just how impregnable it looks, but, yep, you're right about yesterday. Simmering nicely this tour and could/should be a cracking 3rd week.

I think Sky’s plan will be for Froome to attack and gap G & Dumoulin, then for G to assess Dumoulin and if it looks like Dumoulin can’t go with him G will try and bridge to Froomey. The key is dropping Dumoulin because the TT is the last contested stage so they can’t afford to risk him taking the lead in the TT.

Looks like Froome has just cracked - if so that will mean Thomas will be SKY #1 to Paris now.

Interesting that Froome still got the support rider. Time trial is every man for himself obviously so Sky will now look to support Thomas as best as they can and hope Froome can make some time up on dumoulin and have a good time trial. Dumoulin is by no means a cert to take time from Thomas or Froome in that either.

Funny how froome didnt have the energy after he's been investigated...guess when the guy who normally nannies him through gets his own shot at it froome cant handle the competition, just like at the all important olympics
