That (non) performance must have been a real kick in the bollocks to you Owls fans. And, trust me, we are familiar with the feeling. The Wigan final and the no show in Porto spring immediately to mind.
It's not quite the same is it? The games we lost were finals and very disappointing but don't think it compares to such a big club as Wednesday staying in div 1 whilst their rivals get promoted.
I think a better comparison is us winning at Stoke 5-2 and going down - that was fucking shit.
Don't know why but I just think your manager isn't that good. Best of luck next season........and with football there always is a next season

What a truly terrible result, your fans now suffering at a level that only a met police pr manager could grasp. Love going to Hillsboro too, good luck next season , Duff at Barnsley might be an option.

Depending on how Barnsley do I think Duff might be in the Championship regardless next season, as I believe Huddersfield are interested, but I would take him in a heartbeat.

Said it for months it was auto's or nothing, and it proved to be the case. 96 points is irrelevant now in the grand scheme of things, it's just a statistic. This could be a sliding doors moment over the summer for the club, and not necessarily for the better.

Our fanbase have been split on the manager ever since he got the job, points wise we have had 85 & 96 in League 1, but bottom line is it's lead to nothing, he has 1 relegation (took over a car crash tbf) and 2 failed promotion attempts on his CV. Can see us making a change.

I respect your opinion. But I don't agree. That overwhelming feeling of disappointment will remain in my memory for the rest of my days. Trooping out of Wembley after the Wigan final, getting soaked to the skin, I was in a daze. Yes, it's a different level of game. But the utter disappointment was, I imagine, the same as Owls fans felt last night. Being a fan of a "decent" team doesn't make us immune to such feelings.

Fair dos and the fact you went and I didn't [although it was for medical reasons) plus there was so much expectation makes me completely understand how you felt mate

@West Yorks Owl aren't the problems as much about the players bottling it as Moore's inadequacies (negative tactics abd lack of imagination tactically etc)?

I feel genuinely angry how they have you a down so badly. Last night was shameful.

Exactly. The pain of relegation or missing out on promotion or losing a Cup Final or Semi or League all hurt but are different kinds of emotion - all related. I will be gutted if we don't win this League title but it will feel different to relegation to Div 3 in 98. Being close to success and missing out hurts at all levels.

I think 2 things happened with our slump, the first as I've said on here was the injuries to Windass and Byers within 6 days of each other. Windass missed 9 games before returning with 2 games to go, & Byers hasn't played since 11th March missing 13 games including Friday and isn't expected back until pre-season.

Then you have to add into that Darren Moore tinkering, now losing 1-0 to FGR was the killer result, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. For that game he rested players and put in a couple of Fringe players we were playing Sat/Tues for a couple of weeks and it made sense, especially as a lot of the games we had on hand were away from home, the players he brought in didn't step up and it bit us on the arse. I back Moore with his decision the players should have grabbed the chance to get a place in the team which is then theirs to lose, 3 CM's failed to do this and all of them are younger players (we have the oldest average age in the division).

The next game at Cheltenham he then decided to swap the keepers, Dawson was given the numbner 1 slot in December after Stockdale was looking suspect especially to shots from outside the box, but the 3 games he played he continued with the same problem costing us goals, he then switched them back again. This for me is a clue we were panicing, we managed to pick up the results again but any points/games in hand advantage had gone and given Plymouth/Ipswich the upper hand, which they wouldn't give up.

When Moore came to the club we were told he likes to play 4-2-3-1 and at the beginning of last season we tried to do that, but I feel the lack of signing decent wingers made us change to either 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 which we have played 99% of games bar a couple going 4-2-2-2

The thing is if teams press us well (like Barnsley) and deny the wingbacks any space we struggle, we don't have a lot of pace in the team and can't play through teams.

I would have thought though that he would switch to a something like 4-2-3-1 if we are struggling against teams to try something different, especially as it#s his favoured formation but we don't.

Friday night we went 3-4-1-2 but with Patterson as the "1", he's the sort of player we miss when 's he's injured ut I couldn't tell you his position, he can play anywhere. Jack of all trades master of none if you will, this left us light in the middle of the park where I felt we were overun allowing them to get the 2 wingers on the ball a lot, as once they were through they could put balls out wide with us blowing out of our arse to get back.

Sily question but as you have touched on I presume like any fan a relegation especially the one to the third tier hurts more than say losing a final, league title?

When I meet fans of teams like Man Utd & Liverpool and it's a bad season they always come out with it's the worst ever, to which I say unless you have experienced a relegation you have no idea.

"Decent" team, very modest sir :)
