League Cup Final Post - Match Thread

great win but at what cost. If Ferna and Laporte are out for "weeks" as Pep says, we seriously jeopardise our chances in the other 3 competitions, especially the league. The more games you ask them to play the higher probability they get injured, and both these injuries were non contact injuries.
Kompany is back fit and Stones is back for Wednesday. Laporte has played a lot of football this season and the rest may do him some good as long as it's not a long term problem.

Fernandinho has been up and down in form despite our good run. He's made daft decisions at times and was absolutely terrible at Newcastle and i think is starting to struggle to play two games in a week every week. The rest may do him some good too. Plus we can get Sané back into the side, give Gundo more minutes (at no point until Ilkay came on yesterday did we hold possession well in front of their box, de Bruyne and Silva were poor yesterday in that respect, they played far too far apart from each other), move Bernardo inside and give de Bruyne and Silva some rotation as they've also been up and down in form too.

I think things will be fine.

My wife thinks I'm weird, but I love penalty shoot outs, if you lose, well its disappointing, but I can cope (luckily I support a team that doesn't really lose them), but when you win, its the best way to win. To win a cup final that way is even better, that's three we've won at wembley now ;-)

?

yesterday, dippers in '16 and ?

Are you counting Gillingham as a cup final, mate, or have I forgotten one?

:)

IIRC there was a time when one toss did for both - you chose the ends but then your opponent had choice of first or second penalty, or vice versa, but those days are gone.

Yes, I don't understand why that changed. Surely you don't want to give one team an obvious advantage in the penalty shoot out, the whole point of that was that if one team got the choice for one thing, the opposition got it for the other.

I'd play KDB in the defensive role. He's done it enough for Belgium.

It could be a way of compensating for his iffy form. He can be more responsible on the ball & tougher defensively when he puts his mind to it & like Fernandinho, he makes himself available & finds forward passes from that area rather than knocking it sideways & backwards.

But whatever happens, we are a man short defending set pieces, without Fernandinho. None of the replacements other than Stones are adept at that.

Our passing game was off yesterday and when it is we struggle. Saying that, I thought Chelsea made it very difficult to find the little pockets to run into that we are so good at. Hopefully Chelsea can sort out their problems ,and playing like that ,could take points at anfield
